Job description

Job Purpose

The Practical Nurse provides appropriate patient care according to established care plans under the supervision of Registered Nurses, in accordance with the Nursing Scope of Practice. Adheres to and promotes the professional Nurses Code of Conduct for Abu Dhabi. The Practical Nurse is not licensed for independent practice and remains responsible and accountable for his/her own actions. Understands, supports, and promotes the mission, vision, and values of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, assesses and implements nursing care for patients, ensuring a patient-centered approach to care.
  • Assists in activities of daily living for patients according to the care plan, e.g., distributing meals and assisting with hygiene needs.
  • Reports significant changes in the patient’s condition to a registered nurse immediately.
  • Responds to all levels of emergencies following the organization’s policies and procedures.
  • Ensures timely, accurate communication and complete documentation with patients, including verbal and written correspondence with patients or their representatives.
  • Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to manage effective and efficient patient-centered care professionally.
  • Responsible for documentation and participation in the use of electronic medical records and information technology.
  • Assists registered nurses and clerical staff with administrative duties as required.
  • Provides patients and families with comprehensive information and resources to meet healthcare needs.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding patient and family information, promoting professional communication.
  • Provides feedback on strategies to reduce costs and optimize resource utilization.
  • Maintains adequate inventory of examination room supplies and prepares exam rooms at the beginning, end of day, and between patient contacts.
  • In outpatient settings, interacts with clinic patients during appointments, including greeting, rooming, taking vital signs, preparing for exams or procedures, and providing follow-up instructions.
  • Ensures clinic areas are stocked with supplies to promote efficient patient care.
  • Performs all other tasks and duties assigned by the line manager.
Accountabilities

  • Builds relationships and applies team dynamics to deliver safe, timely, effective, and equitable patient-centered care.
  • Informs the registered nurse of observations and care provided, documenting appropriately.
  • Maintains records of current problems, medications, and allergies, reviewing medical records.
  • Ensures timely communication and documentation related to patient care delegated by the nurse in charge.
  • Maintains a safe environment, reports, and documents risks and incidents appropriately.
Qualifications

Experience:
  • Minimum of 1 year in a similar healthcare setting.
Educational Qualification:
  • Diploma of Nursing with a minimum of 18 months course duration.
  • Current National License.
  • BLS certification.
Desired:
  • ACLS, PALS relevant to the area of specialty.
