Position: Senior Conference Manager

WHAT'S THE ROLE

The main purpose of this position is to lead the end-to-end planning, coordination, and execution of high-profile conferences and events that align with the organisation's strategic objectives. The Senior Conference Manager will be responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of events by managing projects effectively, engaging with stakeholders, overseeing budgets, and providing strong leadership to the team.

WHAT DOES THE ROLE INVOLVE

  • Lead the planning, design, and delivery of large-scale conferences aligned with strategic goals. Develop content-rich programmes and collaborate with stakeholders to shape event direction and speaker selection.
  • Lead and manage a cross-functional team, ensuring clear task delegation, effective communication, and on-time delivery within set standards.
  • Serve as the main contact for clients, partners, and sponsors. Build and maintain relationships, ensuring client objectives are met, and provide strategic advice to senior stakeholders.
  • Source and manage high-profile speakers and VIPs, ensuring smooth logistics and alignment with session goals, while promoting diversity and representation.
  • Create and manage budgets, negotiate contracts, and ensure financial targets are met. Provide regular financial updates and manage risks.
  • Oversee on-site operations, ensuring high-quality experiences for delegates and speakers. Manage contingency plans and crisis response when necessary.
  • Identify new business opportunities, contribute to proposals, and support the growth and diversification of the conference portfolio.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and introduce innovative formats and technologies. Lead post-event evaluations to improve future event delivery.

WHAT YOU NEED IS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Event Management, Hospitality, Business Administration, Communications, or related field (Master's Degree preferred).
  • 7-10 years of experience in conference, event, or project management, with a proven track record in large-scale event delivery.
  • Strong expertise in stakeholder management, budgeting, logistics, speaker management, and on-site operations.
  • Experience managing multi-disciplinary teams and working with venues, vendors, sponsors, and government agencies.
  • Previous experience with Professional Conference Organizers (PCOs), associations, corporate clients, or government events is desirable.
  • Excellent project management, negotiation, and financial management skills.
  • Proficiency in event software tools (CRM systems, registration platforms, mobile event apps).
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and contract management skills.
  • Knowledge of event health, safety, accessibility, and sustainability standards.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and ability to work under pressure.
  • Strategic thinker, anticipating trends in the conference and event industry.
