Job Description - Classroom Teacher

Purpose of the job:
As an Early Years Nursery Teacher, you play a pivotal role in laying the foundation for a child's educational journey. Your primary responsibility is to create a nurturing and stimulating environment that fosters the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of young learners. This involves designing age-appropriate, engaging activities and ensuring a safe and supportive atmosphere.
Duties and responsibilities
Continuous Professional Development:
- Stay well-informed of best practices in early childhood education through continuous learning and professional development.
- Share best practices with colleagues in teacher meetings/trainings.
- Seek opportunities for training and education to enhance teaching skills.
Cultural Sensitivity and Inclusivity:
- Embrace and celebrate diversity, ensuring that the classroom is inclusive and welcoming to children of all backgrounds.
- Integrate cultural awareness into curriculum and activities.
Classroom Support:
- Demonstrate good knowledge of the Curriculum and the guided risk approach, keeping aware of current changes and modifications.
- Be fully aware of and implement all nursery policies, code of conduct, and approved planning.
- Ensure children's attendance sheets are updated daily.
- Plan and implement a program that encourages physical, social, and cognitive development, aligned with Kids Spot Nursery's mission and vision.
- Be responsible for classroom management, including staff performance, routines, health and safety, and student progress, in line with the nursery's vision and mission.
- Execute Monthly Planning for your age group, incorporating individual teacher input and EYFS goals, recorded in the communication app.
- Implement guided risks into the EYFS curriculum, following the guided risk policy.
- Ensure late children are dropped at reception after 9:00 am.
- Contribute ideas for nursery improvement, activities, events, and excursions.
- Supervise teacher assistants and classroom assistants, providing guidance and development opportunities.
- Maintain a minimum of 2 staff members supervising children during break times and afternoon clubs, when ratios allow.
- Create a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning, fun, and positive interactions.
Administration:
- Keep the 'get to know me' list updated monthly and with new enrolments (allergies, timings, consent forms).
- Communicate late pickups to the admin team and record in attendance sheets.
- Accurately document weekly assessments, including notes from TAs and trainees, by Fridays.
- Maintain children's portfolios with their work, updating monthly and by the end of each term.
- Provide daily updates to parents about their child's day.
- Keep assessment records current; collaborate with the head teacher and manager to monitor progress.
- Organize and share class files with the team.
- End-of-month paper attendance sheets should be scanned and stored in OneDrive.
- Complete observational checklists for each child, including 2-year observations.
- Prepare termly reports for review and approval by the head teacher and manager.
- Ensure classroom assistants complete daily health and safety checklists.
- Send maintenance requests to the supplies officer every Thursday.
- Submit resource requests mid-month for upcoming topics.
Individualized support:
- Adapt programs to meet individual children's interests, needs, talents, and learning paces.
- Conduct ongoing assessments to identify children requiring specialized support, creating IEPs when necessary.
- Support children in understanding their roles within groups, respecting cultural and religious backgrounds, and integrating children with special needs alongside professionals.
- Maintain accurate records of developmental achievements across all learning areas.
Communication:
- Use clear, age-appropriate language; practice active listening and non-verbal cues.
- Provide positive reinforcement and use visual aids to support understanding.
- Maintain consistent communication with parents via updates and meetings.
- Encourage children to express themselves and resolve conflicts respectfully.
- Incorporate storytelling, play, music, and movement into lessons to enhance engagement.
- Participate in staff meetings, parent meetings, and professional development activities.
- Greet parents and visitors warmly, providing support and information as needed.
Resources and Hygiene in class:
- Utilize nursery resources effectively; ensure proper storage and maintenance.
- Conduct regular checks on equipment and furniture.
- Ensure health and safety protocols are followed, including hygiene and toileting standards.
Behaviour Management:
- Create a positive environment that encourages good behaviour through rewards and consistent policies.
- Follow the nursery's behaviour management policy; avoid punitive measures.
- Provide on-the-spot feedback to staff regarding behaviour expectations.
Code of Conduct:
- Maintain respectful and cooperative teamwork.
- Build positive relationships with parents and uphold nursery standards and policies.
- Support the nursery's ethos, vision, and mission.
Qualifications:
- Attested bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in education, early childhood development, or related field.
- Familiarity with the EYFS Curriculum or the UAE Ministry of Education guidelines.
- NFCE CACHE Level 3 Diploma for the early years workforce, attested.
