EAL (English as an Additional Language) Specialist Teacher
The EAL Teacher will design and deliver targeted English language instruction to students for whom English is an additional language. The successful candidate will implement language acquisition strategies aligned with the WIDA Framework and support student integration across the curriculum and school life. This role involves close collaboration with homeroom and subject teachers to ensure inclusive and differentiated instruction that accelerates English language development and academic progress.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and implement targeted EAL support sessions using research-based instructional strategies.
- Deliver differentiated English language instruction aligned with students' language proficiency levels.
- Support language acquisition through both push-in (co-teaching, in-class support) and pull-out (small group or individual sessions).
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to support access to content in core subjects.
- Monitor student progress and maintain up-to-date language proficiency data.
- Adapt instructional materials to scaffold vocabulary and comprehension.
- Integrate language objectives in content areas to accelerate both BICS and CALP development.
- Provide culturally responsive support that enhances student confidence and participation.
- Maintain timely and effective communication with teachers, students, and parents regarding student progress.
- Contribute to the school's inclusive learning environment and participate in professional learning communities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Education or English, with a recognized teaching qualification (PGCE, TESOL, CELTA, DELTA, or equivalent).
- Minimum 2 years of experience teaching EAL or ESL in an international/American curriculum school setting.
- Familiarity with WIDA standards and EAL instructional strategies.
- Strong classroom management and ability to differentiate instruction for diverse learners.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Experience using educational technology to enhance language learning.
- Passion for working with multilingual learners and supporting language acquisition.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Dubai or the UAE, with an understanding of KHDA expectations.
- Knowledge of inclusion strategies and EAL support in mainstream classrooms.
- Training in phonics-based programs and language scaffolding techniques.
- Awareness of AI tools that support language learning and literacy development.
