Job description

Job Purpose:

The SEN Coordinator has the overall responsibility for ensuring appropriate quality provision, attainment, and progress for students identified as having Special Educational Needs (SEN), English as an Additional Language (EAL), and Gifted and Talented (G&T). The SEN Coordinator is also responsible for communicating and engaging with parents and external student support services to ensure all students have access to appropriate interventions and learning strategies to meet their individual needs.

Key Accountabilities:
  1. Create and maintain a register of all students with specific educational needs requiring support.
  2. Create, monitor, and review the effectiveness of SEN policies and procedures.
  3. Oversee the day-to-day operation of the school's SEN policies.
  4. Manage the budget effectively and prioritize resources.
  5. Track the progress and development of targeted students in conjunction with teachers and team leaders.
  6. Collect data and analyze student results.
  7. Support the identification of student needs, including conducting assessments as needed.
  8. Support and review Individual Education Plans (IEPs) as appropriate.
  9. Design and coordinate interventions, ensuring effective implementation of programs for students.
  10. Identify barriers to learning and share strategies with staff.
  11. Mentor and induct new staff within the team.
  12. Line manage and monitor the performance of Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) in school.
  13. Report to and meet with teachers and parents as appropriate.
  14. Provide training and coaching to classroom LSAs to support student learning.
  15. Maintain high levels of communication with all relevant parties.
  16. Create and maintain a register of students with accommodations for exams/assessments.
  17. Ensure examination and assessment accommodations are in place for students, coordinating with phase coordinators and subject leaders.
  18. Delegate responsibilities where appropriate.
  19. Attend parent/teacher meetings and events.
  20. Develop strategies to assist targeted students effectively.
  21. Assist with enrollment, admissions procedures, and assessments.
  22. Manage resources effectively.
  23. Conduct and report on student observations and lesson observations to support teacher development.
  24. Implement screening and diagnostic procedures to identify learning needs.
  25. Manage staff performance with a focus on differentiation to impact teaching quality.
  26. Act upon Records of Concern as necessary.
  27. Lead weekly meetings with student support staff.
  28. Ensure regular meetings with Heads of Section and parents, maintaining transparency and collaboration.
  29. Prepare reports for various circumstances such as inspections, SEF, and quarterly reviews.
  30. Attend SLT meetings as needed to provide updates and guidance.
  31. Develop and manage relationships with external agencies, e.g., child psychology services.
  32. Share critical actions for students with staff and provide necessary professional development.
  33. Foster professional sharing and development opportunities across Taaleem.
Person Specifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree, Teaching certification, and participation in leadership/management workshops (e.g., NASENCO, NPSQL) preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 2 years in senior or middle leadership roles in similar settings.

Competencies: Knowledge of international accreditation, inspection and evaluation frameworks, excellent communication skills, educational leadership, outstanding teaching, decision-making, solution focus, child protection, health and safety, team development, stakeholder relationship management, and expert knowledge of SEN, EAL, and G&T provisions and curricula.
