We are seeking a visionary and experienced Senior Design Manager to join our Project and Development Services team at Knight Frank Middle East. This key leadership role will oversee the architectural design and planning phases of various real estate projects, ensuring innovative and sustainable design solutions that align with client objectives and industry standards. The ideal candidate will bring extensive architectural expertise, project management skills, and a proven track record in delivering complex projects.
Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operational aspects of the project(s) end-to-end and oversee the team’s projects to ensure client satisfaction.
- Lead the architectural design process from concept development through to completion.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams including architects, engineers, contractors, and consultants to define project goals and design requirements.
- Provide strategic design direction and innovative solutions to enhance project outcomes and client satisfaction.
- Lead the team to deliver accurate, timely, and compliant project deliverables for all pre/post contract services, including design and project management.
- Ensure all team deliverables comply with international and national standards and best practices.
- Ensure designs adhere to local regulations, building codes, and sustainability standards.
- Manage and procure agreements with clients, vendors, and suppliers, monitoring adherence to policies, procedures, and KPIs.
- Deliver services as contracted with clients while managing the firm’s exposure.
- Stay updated on regulatory changes affecting development requirements and adapt project strategies accordingly.
- Oversee design, construction, scheduling, commercial, procurement, risk, health, and safety activities conducted by the team.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, effectively handling schedules, budgets, and resources.
- Monitor project progress, resolve design issues, and ensure timely milestone delivery.
- Conduct regular site visits and inspections to ensure design integrity and quality control.
- Manage procurement activities including prequalification, tendering, and evaluation.
- Lead contract and scope management efforts.
- Track material and equipment orders and delivery statuses.
- Prepare documents for project document control platforms and manage all document control systems.
- Manage close-out documentation and O&M manuals.
- Participate in and oversee QA/QC procedures as set by the Head of Construction.
- Manage and update project logs, issue client reports.
- Collaborate closely with clients, design teams, and contractors to optimize solutions and serve as the primary contact for design-related matters.
- Demonstrate a proven track record of delivering high-quality services from inception to completion.
- Manage pre-contract scope, including reviewing technical specifications, BOQ sections, handling tender queries, managing PQQ processes, and supporting value engineering at each design stage.
- Manage post-contract activities, including construction management, progress tracking, contract administration, site walks, and reporting.
- Perform other tasks as required.
Skills and Qualifications
- Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Project Management, or equivalent; Master’s preferred.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in the industry, with at least 5 years in the Middle East.
- At least 5 years in a leadership role and 10 years in project or cost management.
- Experience with major international projects and PMC/PMO within a reputable international firm.
- Structured problem-solving approach with strategic planning skills.
- Understanding of financial modeling and budgeting for PDS services.
- Broad background in project management and design services.
- Strong numerical, analytical, and leadership skills, with experience managing complex global projects.
- Excellent people management and communication skills, capable of interacting with executive clients.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, multicultural environment.
- Knowledge of regional business culture and regulations.
- Proficiency in computers and information technology, including Knight Frank internal systems.
- Professional memberships (RIBA, RICS, CIOB) are advantageous but not essential; local driving license required.
- Expertise in AutoCAD, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other relevant software.
- Fluent in English; proficiency in Arabic or other languages is a plus.
- Willingness to travel as needed.
