Job description

The Director - Planning, Transport and Landscape shall provide leadership, direction and oversee technical excellence associated with the E&D - Planning, Transport and Landscape Capability (as part of the E&D - Capability) for the Middle East business. Directly responsible for the quality of E&D - Planning, Transport and Landscape deliverables. Working closely with the Markets and Accounts to ensure regional business revenue and EBIT targets are met, with a focus on maximising profit from the overall E&D - Capability. The technical excellence scope included within the E&D - Planning, Transport and Landscape scope are as follows :

  • Transport Planning & Mobility
  • Strategic Planning
  • Masterplanning

The various measurable aspects to this role and associated KPI's are as follows :

  • Capability Strategy - Support Regional Director - E&D in development and implementation of strategy to achieve E&D - Capability performance aligned with Long Range Plan (LRP) (5-year plan), annual Business Plan and proposed targets specific to E&D (ensuring E&D - Planning, Transport and Landscape executes required strategic initiatives to contribute to E&D strategy). This includes supporting the Markets and Accounts to meet targets for P&L, EBIT and Headcount.
  • Resource Demand Management - Support in the management of resource requirements, specific to E&D - Planning, Transport and Landscape Capability, providing leadership in recruitment, retention and performance. Responsible for 'strategic resource demand planning' with Markets and Accounts of E&D - Planning, Transport and Landscape resources for cross business allocation.
  • Technical Excellence - Manage the development and deployment of technical excellence tools, techniques and training for the E&D - Planning, Transport and Landscape Capability (supported by Markets and Accounts).
  • Overhead Management - Ensure E&D - Planning, Transport and Landscape Capability resource is managed in line with the Overhead budget as provided during the business planning cycle.
  • Talent Management - Provide leadership to drive proactive identification and development of talent including driving the delivery of 9-box grid, for development planning and succession plans.
  • Technical Development - Ensure effective collaboration with Markets and Accounts, in conjunction with L&TD (HR) to identify and implement required technical development for the E&D - Planning, Transport and Landscape Capability.
  • Win Work - Proactive support of Win Work opportunities where E&D - Planning, Transport and Landscape scope is to be provided.
  • Leadership & Vision (Accountable, Inspiring, Inclusive, Collaborative & Integrity) - Provide leadership and demonstrate positive AtkinsRéalis behaviours with performance defined by feedback through pulse surveys and other feedback avenues (as prescribed by HR).
  • Future Business Plan development - Responsibility for supporting Markets and Accounts developing and implementing short, medium and long-term business plans specifically for the E&D - Planning, Transport and Landscape Capability.
  • Nationalisation targets - Support Markets and Accounts in achieving required Nationalisation targets, to ensure continued business operations and ICV (In Country Value).

The core responsibilities for the role of the Director - Planning, Transport and Landscape are summarised as follows.

A - Profitable Delivery

Support all Markets and Accounts in the delivery of best-in-class deliverables for the specific Capability. This includes but is not limited to :

Quality & Technical Guidelines - Development and deployment of robust and best in class tools, templates and techniques to those delivering our projects located within the Markets and Accounts

Audit & Assurance - Audit projects to ensure compliance and utilisation of our AtkinsRéalis best practice.

KAM & Client Development - Support KAM & Client Development activities. Lead on KAM and Client Development solely if identified as best athlete for a client.

Proactive Win Work - Support Markets and Accounts in positioning technical excellence scope delivered by the Capability.

Capture Planning - Support Markets and Accounts 'Client Value Proposition' workshops & strategy development to align services with client needs.

Starting the job right - Ensure that all Markets and Accounts projects have the necessary tools and templates to start the job right specific to the Capability service lines.

B - Capability - Operational Excellence

Director - Planning, Transport and Landscape shall ensure that the best tools, techniques and approaches are utilised across all Markets and Accounts. Identify new ways of working where required that will improve the commercial performance of our projects. This includes but is not limited to :

Process & Procedures - Define, administer and develop Capability specific tools and techniques. Ensure clarity on the process, its application and relevant training and communications to ensure compliant adoption throughout the business.

Capability Risk Management - Advise the business on Capability risks and the relevant mitigation plans. Create a quarterly Capability risk management plan and issue to key leaders and stakeholders within the business.

Capability Trends - Identify, through either direct relationships or analytical tools, key trends within the Capability and provide specific action plans as required to develop AtkinsRéalis ability to meet the needs of our clients.

Talent Strategies - Develop technical talent strategies for professionals within the Capability community. This is to outline clear technical progression as well as identify the best training and opportunities to develop our talent.

Recruitment - Support Markets and Accounts with recruitment activities for Capability resources where necessary.

Resource Allocation & Bench Management - Proactively manage collaboratively with Markets and Accounts the resource levels and utilisation for the Capability community. Provide a conduit to reallocate resource across the Middle East and global business in consultation with the main P&L holders.

Establish and develop the overall behaviours for success within the E&D - Planning, Transport and Landscape Capability and community. Ensuring positive behaviours and responsibilities are encouraged, developed and endorsed in the management of the following :

Organisation Design & Operating Model - Collaboration with the Strategy & Transformation Team (Responsible) to review, develop and approve any adjustments to the Capability operating model. This is inclusive of organisation design, organisation interface definition and assignment of roles and responsibilities.

Leadership Behaviours - Lead by example and demonstrate critical behaviours for success : accountability, inspiration, collaboration, inclusivity and integrity.

Learning & Development - Identify and drive development and inspire the Capability community in line with both the organisation goals and the career aspirations of the individuals.

Capability Team Budget & Deployment - Deliver Capability technical excellence in line with the budget provided by the business. Ensure the Capability team is appropriately sized to meet Overhead limitations.

Technical Excellence - Oversee, ensure and inspire best in class delivery of E&D - Planning, Transport and Landscape scoped projects. Enabling Markets and Accounts to leverage technology, skills and capabilities to ensure standards of excellence are above and beyond.

Lessons Learnt - Retain and develop a lesson learnt log across the Capability activities. Identify areas for improvement and collaboratively develop robust and clear action plans. Communicate pertinent lessons learnt to the business.

Digital Transformation - Focus on the incorporation of 'digital' into services to create value propositions.

PDR & Team Development - Define and assist inclusively in the successful delivery of PDR's and career development for resources within the Capability community.

D - Key Interfaces (Others)

Marketing and Communications - Develop a Capability specific 'Marketing and Communications' Strategy outlining what the approach is to drive AtkinsRéalis business performance.

Thought Leadership - Produce thought leadership articles and papers in alignment with the Capability 'Marketing and Communications' Strategy.

Peer Review - As required provide Peer Review activities for adjacent Capability, Markets and Accounts

Performance Feedback (service levels) - Communicate to business feedback on Capability performance - deliverables, people, financial - positive or negative (integrity).

Director - Planning, Transport and Landscape will have strong skills in enabling people, business management and vision & strategy to develop and drive new Capability concepts and solutions for AtkinsRéalis across our Middle East business.

As such the role requires :

  • Extensive technical Capability experience
  • Regional SME (subject matter expert) for E&D - Planning, Transport and Landscape Capability
  • Excellent presentation skills
