Job description

Job Purpose: Provides the basis for the control of the process. Ensures that tests are carried out accurately, consistently and timely and in accordance with the specified standards and methodology. Monitors the quality of the following :

• Products manufactured, imported and exported

• Material being used in the process

• Raw material and finished products in storage tanks

• By products of the process

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day lab operations and supervise a team of chemists and technicians.
  • Ensure accuracy of testing and issue quality certifications for internal and third-party use.
  • Manage 120+ analyzers and lab equipment (valued at USD 2M), including calibration and maintenance.
  • Coordinate quality testing for internal stakeholders (e.g., EPPCO, Aviation) and third parties.
  • Review test results, advise on product blending, and provide analytical support for troubleshooting.
  • Drive procurement of lab chemicals, consumables, and equipment; handle tender evaluations.
  • Maintain safety, housekeeping, and audit readiness within the lab.
  • Serve as alternate Incident Commander; ensure 24/7 lab support for operations.

Requirements

  • Education: Master’s or Ph.D. in Chemistry (organic & inorganic focus).
  • Experience: 15+ years in a refinery lab; strong background in ASTM/IP testing, chromatography, environmental testing, and team management.
  • Skills: Analytical thinking, data interpretation, lab systems proficiency, and procurement oversight.
