Job Description
MAJOR FUNCTIONS
- Monitor, review, and approve (as required) EPC contractor relevant engineering/design activities. Ensure all deliverables related to mechanical engineering align with the project's and company's design intent, specifications, and good engineering practices, completed within schedule.
- Develop mechanical equipment selection concepts, studies, reports, and basic engineering deliverables for new projects, including field support and commissioning assistance.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Ensure the company's engineering quality standards are met for the discipline on assigned projects.
- Oversee the development of mechanical equipment selection and design concepts, ensuring proper application and execution.
- Assist contractor teams in producing engineering/construction documents that meet project requirements within schedule and budget.
- Verify the quality of contractor work regarding specifications, reports, code application, submittals, equipment selection, and drawings.
- Review material requisitions for compliance with project requirements and specifications.
- Conduct technical bid evaluations to ensure vendor compliance with requisitions.
- Resolve conflicting design requirements by providing suitable solutions.
- Provide technical assistance and troubleshooting for mechanical and rotating equipment design, operation, and maintenance issues, consulting internal and external experts as needed.
- Respond to contractor technical queries and concession requests.
- Address contractor variation requests with technical responses.
- Promote standardization and uniformity in design and engineering across all project phases, updating company specifications based on lessons learned.
- Manage work plans and deliverables across multiple projects within budgeted hours.
- Lead, supervise, and mentor the company's machinery staff.
- Develop mechanical equipment design concepts and basic engineering deliverables such as equipment selection reports and datasheets for new projects.
- Audit installations during construction, witness factory and site acceptance tests, pre-commissioning, and commissioning to ensure compliance with specifications.
Reporting and Working Relationships
- Report to the Engineering Manager on project activities and critical issues.
- Report to project directors on any critical issues affecting costs or schedules.
- Maintain excellent working relationships with all company staff.
Continuous Improvement of Position
- Pursue ongoing professional development, ideally through relevant certifications.
Minimum Educational, Technical Qualifications/Certifications Required
- At least 15 years of relevant experience in the oil and gas industry.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; individuals with extensive relevant experience but lacking formal qualifications may also be considered.
- Experience as a Rotating Equipment Engineer with a tier 1/major EPC contractor or vendor in developing EPC deliverables.
- Experience working with an oil/gas operating company.
- Strong knowledge of industrial context, contract practices, and oil & gas operations.
- Leadership qualities, interpersonal skills, and effective communication.
- Fluency in English, both verbal and written.
