The Role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Vibration Engineer (Reciprocating Machinery) within the Wood Asset Life Optimisation (ALO) group, contributing to vibration, dynamics, and noise engineering consultancy services for internal Wood business units and external clients. The role is primarily based in Wood offices with on-site support required both onshore and offshore for high-profile clients.

Key Objectives

• Identify vibration patterns and diagnose faults in reciprocating machinery
• Prevent excessive vibrations due to resonance and harmonic frequencies
• Assess impact of vibrations on mechanical components to prevent fatigue failure
• Implement vibration monitoring to detect early wear and tear
• Enhance machine design to minimize vibration effects
• Use specialized software for vibration modeling and analysis

Responsibilities

• Data collection for vibration studies
• Perform API 618 pulsation and mechanical analysis of reciprocating compressors
• Perform API 674 pulsation and mechanical analysis of pumps
• Conduct piping vibration assessments based on EI Guidelines
• Perform pipe stress analysis per ASME B31.1 and B31.3
• Support field measurement campaigns for vibration troubleshooting
• Represent Vibration, Dynamics, and Noise discipline on projects
• Support vibration studies during project phases
• Innovate and improve performance practices

Qualifications

Skills and Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years in on- and offshore oil and gas industry
• Experience in reciprocating machinery, vibration, and project management
• Competent in API618 and API674 standards
• Knowledge of simulation software (e.g., ANSYS, Caesar, PULS/BOSFluids, MAPAK) is desirable
• Experience in vibration, dynamic stress, pressure, and noise measurements
• Understanding of excitation sources and data collection for project goals

Additional Desirable Experience

• Knowledge of high-level coding languages (e.g., MATLAB, C+)
• Experience in machinery analysis (surge, skid dynamics, rotordynamics)
• Knowledge of rotating machinery and industry standards (ASME B31.1, B31.3)
