Job Overview: The Design Manager for Design Development leads and oversees all aspects of the design development phase, ensuring that designs are executed accurately, creatively, and efficiently. They manage a team of designers, collaborate with internal stakeholders (product, engineering, marketing, etc.), and ensure that designs align with the project vision, timelines, and budget.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership and Management:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of designers to create innovative design solutions.
- Conduct regular reviews and feedback sessions to ensure the team is aligned with the project's goals and vision.
- Provide guidance on design strategies, techniques, and best practices.
Design Development:
- Oversee the development of design concepts into practical, detailed designs.
- Ensure that designs are consistent with the company's brand, vision, and user experience goals.
- Review and approve design deliverables such as sketches, prototypes, and finalized assets.
Collaboration and Coordination:
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, engineers, and marketing, to ensure seamless integration of design solutions.
- Ensure clear communication between design and development teams to resolve potential technical challenges.
- Represent design interests in meetings, ensuring that design decisions are informed and well-supported.
Quality Control and Review:
- Review design outputs to ensure they meet quality standards and are aligned with project specifications.
- Ensure designs are completed within project timelines, budgets, and client specifications.
Project Management:
- Develop and manage project timelines, milestones, and deadlines for design deliverables.
- Monitor and report on the progress of design projects, adjusting resources and priorities as necessary.
- Manage client expectations and provide regular updates on design development progress.
Innovation and Trends:
- Stay up-to-date on industry trends, emerging design technologies, and new tools.
- Integrate innovative design techniques and best practices to improve design processes and outcomes.
- Encourage creative and forward-thinking solutions within the design team.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Design, Architecture, or related field (Master's degree preferred).
- Experience: 12+ years of experience in design management, with a focus on design development or a similar role.
- Leadership: Proven track record of leading and mentoring design teams.
- Software proficiency: Skilled in design software such as Revit, AutoCAD, Sketchup and other relevant tools.
- Project Management: Strong understanding of project management processes and tools
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present design concepts and ideas clearly to both internal teams and clients.
- Attention to Detail: Strong focus on detail and high standards in design execution.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to address and resolve design and development challenges creatively.
