Job Overview :

The General Superintendent role requires mastery of project execution strategies, workforce management, and industry-wide disciplines such as regulatory compliance, risk management, supply chain logistics, and workforce development. The decisions made by the General Superintendent are critical to delivering projects to high standards of quality, within budget, and on schedule. They significantly impact service levels, safety culture, and operational excellence at McDermott. Their strategic decisions are guided by policy understanding, resource management, financial insights, and alignment with McDermott’s long-term goals.

Responsibilities

Key Tasks and Responsibilities :

  • Oversee offshore construction activities, ensuring adherence to project plans, specifications, and schedules
  • Enforce quality standards and ensure work meets company and industry standards
  • Implement and monitor safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment
  • Lead and manage the offshore construction team, including subcontractors and direct labor
  • Coordinate resource allocation, including materials, equipment, and personnel
  • Maintain strong client relationships, addressing concerns and ensuring satisfaction
  • Provide regular updates to project managers and senior management
  • Conduct inspections and audits for compliance with safety and quality standards
  • Resolve issues or conflicts during construction
  • Monitor and control project costs to adhere to budgets
  • Train and mentor junior staff and new hires
  • Collaborate with engineering and procurement teams for seamless execution
  • Ensure documentation and reporting of all offshore activities
  • Implement the HSE program
  • Manage all phases of offshore construction using schedules and estimates
  • Review project status periodically and initiate remedial actions
  • Coordinate with other departments for information and material flow
  • Manage subcontractors’ performance and execution
  • Hold responsibility for safety, cost, timing, and quality of work

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications and Education :

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years in offshore construction, with at least 7 in supervisory roles
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of EPCI processes
  • Relevant offshore construction and safety certifications
  • Experience with risk management strategies
  • Ability to work under pressure and multitask
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Understanding of offshore construction techniques and standards
  • International offshore construction experience
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Leadership and staff development abilities
  • Willingness to travel frequently to offshore sites
  • Open to extended foreign assignments
