About the job

We seek an experienced and active Freight Broker to join our dynamic team in Dubai, UAE. The ideal candidate should have a proven track record and an existing network of clients, specifically for our Indian Ocean / Far East desk. The Freight Broker will be crucial in managing existing position lists and cargo orders, developing new client relationships, and expanding our company's network. Responsibilities include concluding spot fixtures and COAs, and coordinating closely with the Post-fixture and Operations (charter in/charter out) departments.

Location: Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop Client Relationships: Foster and maintain strong relationships with existing and new clients, book cargoes, and coordinate nominations.
  • Rate Business and Negotiate Fixtures: Leverage his understanding of shipping/chartering terms and conditions to negotiate and secure competitive fixtures.
  • Fleet and Cargo Scheduling: Monitor forward fleet and cargo scheduling to ensure optimal efficiency.
  • Charter Party Agreements: Manage the entire process from the firm offer to the clean fixture recap, ensuring all details are meticulously handled until the file is closed.
  • Maximize Revenue: Identify and capitalize on revenue/gross profit opportunities with each client.
  • Coordination: Work closely and professionally with all company departments to ensure smooth operations.
  • Innovative Solutions: Present creative, out-of-the-box solutions to identify new opportunities.
  • Voyage Analysis: Analyse voyage results and provide constructive feedback.
  • Meet KPIs and Ethics: Consistently meet company KPIs and adhere to ethical standards.

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Experience: A minimum of three years as a freight trader/broker in the dry-cargo industry and/or project market is beneficial. Shortsea Market experience, especially in the Far East, is also beneficial.
  • Business Development: Ability to develop new business opportunities with superior negotiation skills.
  • Problem-Solving: Excellent problem-solving abilities and a track record of maintaining strong client relationships.
  • Personality: Ambitious, self-starter, confident, and outgoing.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Organisational Skills: Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Time Management: Proven ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Client Pursuit: Drive to actively pursue new clients and conclude new chartering agreements.
  • High-Paced Environment: Ability to function well in a high-paced, sometimes stressful environment.
  • Technical Skills: Fluent in MS Office (Word and Excel), knowledgeable in shipping-related software, and proficient in freight estimations and lay-time calculations.
  • Language Skills: Fluent in English and Hindi, with a good understanding of Arabic preferred.
  • Flexibility: Ability to work outside of regular business hours as needed.
