Job Description
Purpose: The Instructional Coach will collaborate with classroom teachers to support student learning. The focus will be on individual and group professional development to enhance understanding of research-based effective instruction. The coach will provide personalized support based on the goals and needs of each teacher.
Essential Functions:
- Support the philosophy and vision of GEMS & AKIS
- Facilitate the intellectual and professional development of teachers
- Create positive relationships with teachers and administrators
- Communicate and demonstrate research-based instructional practices that lead to improved student outcomes
General Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate knowledge of research-based instructional strategies that engage all students
- Provide organized, individual, and group learning opportunities for teachers
- Use a variety of assessment tools effectively
- Maintain thorough knowledge of curriculum and subject matter
- Support analysis of student assessment data
- Assist teachers in designing instructional decisions based on data
- Support classroom activities as requested
- Implement classroom motivation and management strategies
- Help teachers create curriculum-aligned materials
- Monitor intervention programs through observation and meetings
- Provide internet resources related to instruction and curriculum
- Support teachers with curriculum software and related technologies
- Assist in researching instructional and curriculum issues
- Model lessons when appropriate
- Offer encouragement and emotional support to teachers
- Promote ongoing professional growth among teachers
- Manage time and schedules flexibly to maximize learning
- Contribute to district and school improvement goals
- Assist in developing district curriculum, instruction, and assessments
- Maintain a confidential and collegial relationship with teachers
- Recognize when to involve administrators regarding safety or ethical issues involving students
- Obtain prior approval from the Principal and Head of School/CEO for special activities and expenditures
- Attend workshops and conferences on innovative instructional strategies
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal and Head of School/CEO
Skills and Qualifications:
- Master's degree preferred from an accredited institution
- Current Teaching License
- Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience
- Experience with research-based instructional practices
- Proficiency with curriculum software
