Job description

JOB PURPOSE:

The purpose of this role is to meet with prospective clients, increase sales, and focus on company goals, margins, and collections. The role involves collaboration between sales and operations to ensure timely delivery and excellent customer service. The Business Development Manager will work closely with the Commercial Team and Business Manager to ensure targets set by the company are met.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop key relationships with industrial and commercial clients requiring electricity.
  • Increase revenue and maintain targeted margins by targeting new industrial customers to RAK and understanding competitive pressures from direct and indirect competition
  • Sign contracts for electricity supply to support the growth of the new division and ensure RAKGAS compliance with the contractual framework
  • Understand ongoing economic trends, indicators & customer (existing and prospective) concerns including local price dynamics, to maintain volumes and customer numbers
  • Resolve customer problems or issues through innovative solutions, working within the contractual framework and utilising appropriate commercial and operational levers as agreed with RAKGAS management
  • Build and manage a pipeline of opportunities from qualification through signature, working closely with key RAK Government sister entities (e.g. RAKEZ and RAK Ports) and supporting prospecting activity & sales pitches
  • Maintain accurate pipeline and sales information in the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system
  • Monitor client exposure and manage credit risks working together with the Credit Controller, in line with the RAKGAS credit policy
  • Analyse sales data and report performance to the Business Manager, tracking performance against agreed KPIs and targets, and implement appropriate reporting for senior management e.g. through the design and implementation of dashboards
  • Review collections and work alongside the credit controller to follow up on collections from existing clients and prevent increased exposure, reviewing credit as required & if needed agreeing and implementing customer payment plans
  • Arrange meetings with potential customers to prospect for new business including supporting other Gov agencies (RAKEZ, RAK Ports) to cross-sell energy as part of wider RAK welcoming package and provide commercial energy input to pitches

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Bring clients to the Power Division meeting the requirements of the contractual framework (sufficient connected load, appropriate consumption pattern / load factor, and industrial sector)
  • Implement appropriate payment terms and balance risk of new entities: ensure the correct paperwork is collected and in place, working with credit controller to ensure our exposure is mitigated as appropriate by insurance or other means (deposit, bank guarantee)

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS:

  • Bachelor's degree in business management, Engineering, Science/Maths, Economics or related field. At least 5 years of related experience in the energy or utilities sector ideally in sales or customer facing roles
  • Strong communication skills in English; Arabic is desirable not essential.
  • Excellent customer service and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to drive and travel for work purposes
