Job description

The Department of Civil Engineering (CVE) in the College of Engineering at American University of Sharjah (AUS) invites applications for a regular or visiting faculty position at the assistant, associate, or full professor level commencing in Fall Semester 2026. The successful candidate for the regular position will be expected to establish a high-level, active research program supported by internal and external funding sources. The visiting faculty position is primarily focused on teaching. The visiting position is a one-year renewable contract, and the regular position is a three-year renewable contract.

The applicant is required to have a PhD in Civil Engineering or a closely related field and demonstrate a significant teaching portfolio. Excellence in teaching and research, along with experience in the American model of higher education, are highly desirable. Applicants for the regular position should specialize in construction engineering and management and/or digital construction. Applicants for the visiting position can be in any specialty within civil engineering.

The Department of Civil Engineering has approximately 150 undergraduate students, 65 graduate students, 15 full-time faculty, and 2 lab instructors. The department's students and faculty represent diverse backgrounds and nationalities; approximately 90 nationalities are present on campus. The department offers a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, a Bachelor of Science in Digital Construction Engineering and Management, a Master of Science in Civil Engineering, a Master of Science in Construction Management, and a PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering.

AUS is located in the Emirate of Sharjah, about 15 km from Dubai. It is an independent, not-for-profit, coeducational university serving more than 5,700 students. AUS is licensed and its programs are accredited by the Commission for Academic Accreditation of the UAE Ministry of Education's Higher Education Affairs Division. It has been accredited in the United States by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education since June 2004.
