What are my responsibilities?
- Serve as the key contact for all environmental matters according to SIEMENS EHS Principles.
- Maintain and foster close interaction and collaboration with local / global business functions, services management teams, and the global EHS community (P&O EHS, Business / BU EHS, other Countries EHS, etc.) to achieve the EHS policy objectives for the country.
- Define and develop the country's environmental targets, strategy, and roadmap in alignment with global and country business EHS strategies and corporate (if applicable – business) EHS roadmap.
- Conduct regular inspections of Siemens' facilities, construction sites, and operations to ensure compliance with environmental laws, regulations, and company policies.
- Monitor the implementation of environmental management systems (EMS) in line with ISO 14001 standards.
- Assess and ensure compliance with local, national, and international environmental regulations applicable to Siemens' operations.
- Set and review environmental KPIs and targets.
- Lead and participate in environmental audits within the project required as part of the C-EMP at the project.
- Monitor and achieve compliance with EMS 14001.
- Identify potential environmental risks, non-compliance issues, and areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with internal teams to develop corrective action plans and ensure their implementation.
- Monitor changes in environmental laws and ensure corporate policies are aligned.
- Support Siemens' sustainability goals by monitoring the effectiveness of environmental protection measures.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of sustainability programs, such as energy efficiency, waste reduction, and carbon footprint reduction initiatives.
- Prepare detailed reports on inspection findings, audit results, and compliance status.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of environmental performance metrics, incident reports, and regulatory submissions.
- Assist in preparing environmental documentation required for regulatory agencies and stakeholders.
- Conduct training sessions for Siemens employees and contractors on environmental regulations, best practices, and sustainability initiatives.
- Promote environmental awareness and foster a culture of environmental responsibility within the organization.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Health & Safety, Engineering, and Project Management, to integrate environmental considerations into business operations.
- Liaise with regulatory agencies, environmental consultants, and other external stakeholders to ensure compliance and address any environmental concerns.
- Secure required licenses, consents, and permits from governmental statutory authorities during work at project sites.
- Respond to environmental incidents, such as spills or emissions, and coordinate with emergency response teams to mitigate impact.
- Conduct root cause analysis of incidents and recommend preventive measures to avoid future occurrences.
- Ensure compliance with the Construction Environmental Permits and periodic renewal of Permits / NOCs for projects and facilities.
- Ensure approval of the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for projects and facilities.
What do I need to qualify for this job?
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in the environmental field, including preparing, implementing, and administering plans, inspections, and compliance with local and international standards and requirements, preferably in the railway or transportation industry.
- Proven experience in working with environmental management systems.
- Expert-level knowledge of ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) and implementing / managing management system elements.
- Strong understanding of environmental and social best practices, including the IFC ES Performance Standards.
- Good practice of environmental mitigation measures and experience in ISO standards is valued.
- Strong understanding of health and safety best practices.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and standards relevant to Siemens' operations.
- Familiarity with environmental management systems, particularly ISO 14001.
- Proficiency in environmental monitoring tools, software, and reporting systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Preference given to candidates possessing membership in recognized professional bodies such as the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) or the National Registry of Environmental Professionals (NREP).
- Certifications such as Certified Environmental Inspector (CEI) or other relevant credentials may be preferred.
- The role involves working at Siemens' various sites, including project sites and corporate offices.
- Frequent travel to different locations may be required.
- May need to work in challenging conditions, depending on the project or facility.
