Job Description
Responsible to independently or under the supervision of a senior sonographer to perform all sonography imaging procedures, analyze output, and report to the supervisor as needed.
Responsibilities
Managerial
- Maintain sufficient inventory of material supplies and equipment for performance of duties.
- Report shortages of materials to the supervisor at the earliest convenience, and maintain records for ordering and replenishments.
Technical
- Perform all ultrasound imaging procedures in accordance with department policies, procedures, and protocols, applying detailed knowledge of anatomy and physiology to produce high-quality diagnostic images.
- Perform other related radiography procedures as required.
- Evaluate and assess ultrasound images for quality, appropriateness, and completeness; advise staff as needed; forward images to radiologists for review and reporting.
- Recognize anatomy and pathology in cross-sectional imaging to optimize scan protocols; liaise with radiologists for further imaging or tests.
- Ensure the safe and competent use of all radiology equipment, patient appliances, and aids; report incidents and equipment faults promptly.
- Maintain a clean and tidy working environment, including restocking supplies and cleaning equipment.
- Provide advice to medical/technical staff on techniques and imaging interventions.
- Handle patient and staff inquiries and relay information to clinical staff when necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Quality & Safety
- Promote and maintain quality services; implement continuous quality improvement measures.
- Conduct method evaluations/development as per policies and procedures.
- Comply with safety and quality control programs and procedures.
- Follow environmental safety and infection control precautions.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
- Practice within established policies and procedures.
- Ensure SOPs and Quality Assurance tests are maintained.
- Document interventions appropriately.
- Support clinical audit processes and report as required.
- Communicate professionally with patients, families, and medical personnel.
Education
- Participate in educational sessions, training, and clinical presentations.
- Participate in department programs, committees, and staff meetings.
- Assist in the orientation and training of new staff and interns.
- Share information appropriately within policies and procedures.
- Maintain professional knowledge through ongoing education.
- Complete all regulatory requirements including licensure, certification, and mandatory training.
Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum 2 years postgraduate experience in ultrasound in an acute care hospital, including Doppler, obstetrics/gynecology, and abdominal sonography, with at least 2 years as a senior ultrasound radiographer.
- For UAE nationals: minimum 2 years postgraduate experience in general radiography.
Desired: Postgraduate Ultrasound Diploma or Certificate.
