Overview of role

Gradiant is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Procurement/Category Manager - Chemicals to join our team in Abu Dhabi. As a Category Manager, you will play a pivotal role in the procurement and management of raw materials and chemicals for water treatment applications. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of sourcing, negotiating, and managing supplier relationships within the water treatment industry. Specific Duties/responsibilities

  • Strategic Sourcing: Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers for chemicals and raw materials used in water treatment processes to ensure a consistent and reliable supply chain.
  • Vendor Management: Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, negotiating favorable terms and conditions, as well as managing performance and quality standards.
  • Cost Optimization: Continuously monitor and analyze the cost of chemicals and raw materials, implementing cost-saving strategies without compromising product quality or compliance.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure the quality and compliance of sourced chemicals with industry standards and regulations, collaborating with relevant departments to maintain high product quality.
  • Market Research: Stay informed about industry trends, market dynamics, and emerging technologies to proactively adapt sourcing strategies and identify innovative solutions.
  • Inventory Management: Collaborate with the inventory and logistics teams to manage stock levels efficiently, minimizing excess or shortage of materials.
  • Sustainability Initiatives: Promote environmentally responsible procurement practices, including identifying eco-friendly alternatives and supporting sustainability goals.
  • Compliance: Ensure all procurement activities adhere to relevant laws, regulations, and company policies.

Education, Skills & Experience

  • A bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Chemistry, or a related field. A master's degree is considered a plus.
  • A minimum of 8-10 years of relevant experience in strategic procurement, with a strong preference for candidates who have experience in sourcing chemicals for water treatment applications.
  • Deep understanding of water treatment processes, chemical categories, and industry standards.
  • Familiarity with sourcing practices, supplier management, and market dynamics within the water treatment sector.
  • Exceptional negotiation skills with a proven track record of successful supplier negotiations.
  • Analytical and data-driven decision-making.
  • Knowledge of chemical sourcing, quality control, and supply chain management.
  • Proficiency in SAP.
  • Strong leadership and project management abilities.
  • Problem-solving and critical thinking.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Adaptability and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Some travel maybe required [15%]
  • Ability to work in a high energy environment and don multiple hats, if required.
  • High ethical standards and a commitment to compliance with laws and regulations.
  • A collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong communication skills to convey ideas and technical information effectively within team and to customers.
