Purpose of the role

To develop and manage the success of specific financial products and services, providing in-depth expertise on a particular product line, bridging the gap between product development, marketing, sales, and customer service.

Accountabilities

  • Provision of SME expertise on specific products and services to customers and colleagues, including features, functionalities, benefits, financial returns limitations, risks and compliance.
  • Understanding of market trends, new features, regulatory requirements and potential risks, and analysis of data obtained from sales figures and, customer feedback, to support the product origination and development process, and communicate key findings to relevant stakeholders to improve product offerings.
  • Response to customer inquiries, attending client meetings and obtaining a detailed understanding of complex personal / corporate financial circumstances to originate Credit resolution of issues, and provision of guidance on product usage. .
  • Presentation of the advantages and features of the product to potential customers, building trust and encouraging adoption.
  • Participation in training sessions and workshops to share product knowledge and expertise with colleagues and other stakeholders.
  • Participation in events, conferences, and other internal networking opportunities to showcase the product and generate interest.

Credit Specialist | Barclays | Dubai.

We are seeking a seasoned Credit Specialist (VP level) to join our Private Banking & Wealth Management (PBWM) platform in Dubai. This role is critical to our regional growth ambitions and supports the ongoing management of approximately 120 borrowing relationships within the Dubai credit portfolio. The successful candidate will play a key role in annual credit reviews, ongoing risk monitoring, and driving new credit business aligned to strategic targets.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Annual Credit Reviews: Own the end-to-end process of annual credit reviews for all clients, ensuring timely and accurate completion in compliance with internal policies.
  • Portfolio Management: Oversee a mixed portfolio of credit relationships, including identifying risk exposures, recommending credit actions (increases/reductions), and tracking performance.
  • New Credit Transactions: Support the origination, structuring, and documentation of new credit transactions in collaboration with Relationship Managers and internal stakeholders.
  • Risk Mitigation: Actively monitor market volatility and client risk exposures using systems such as Avaloq. Take proactive steps to resolve potential credit issues.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as a key liaison between the Credit Risk team, Bankers, and Clients, ensuring all queries and issues are addressed efficiently.
  • Systems and Documentation: Ensure all credit decisions and documentation are properly recorded and updated through internal systems including Gateway and Avaloq.
  • Strategic Contribution: Contribute to the delivery of credit-related business targets and the platform's broader commercial objectives.

Essential Criteria:
  • Proven experience in writing and structuring new credit transactions in a private banking or corporate credit environment.
  • Strong background in risk monitoring and mitigation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise confidently with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills with a detailed understanding of credit risk.
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written).
  • Collaborative team player with a high level of integrity and professionalism.

Desired Criteria:
  • Familiarity with Avaloq and Gateway credit systems.
  • Competence in reviewing and analysing financial statements.
  • Strong attention to detail with a "get it right the first time" mindset.
  • Prior experience in a private banking or wealth management credit environment is a strong plus.
