Job description

Job Responsibilities:
  1. Assist the Head of Maritime Transport Program as required.
  2. Teach a range of subjects including Navigation, Cargo Operations, Bridge Management, and other related topics related to STCW II/I requirements, using suitable teaching styles to meet the Academy's standards.
  3. Employ appropriate, innovative, and effective pedagogic approaches in the classroom. Deliver lectures and lead seminar groups as appropriate.
  4. Participate in examination and assessment processes, including setting papers, preparing marking schemes, and agreeing marks with other staff. Use innovative assessment practices to enhance learning and teaching.
  5. Update personal discipline knowledge to support research-informed teaching.
  6. Ensure compliance with the timetable and academic calendar.
  7. Conduct research for career development, aligning with the Academy's research objectives.
  8. Provide timely, constructive, and comprehensive feedback to students through various communication channels.
  9. Deliver maritime training courses as required by the Line Manager.
  10. Be prepared to travel and work outside standard hours as per the contract.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
Qualifications:
  • E: Terminal COC (Master Mariner Unlimited)
  • E: Master of Science or equivalent Master-level qualification in a relevant subject
  • P: Experience in oil/gas operations, dynamic positioning, and simulation training
Skills:
  • E: Fluent in English, with high-level communication skills
  • E: Team player, approachable, culturally sensitive
  • E: Able to work under pressure and complete tasks efficiently
Experience:
  • E: Experience in maritime education and/or training
  • P: Sailed as a Master in the merchant navy
  • P: Industry experience supporting seafaring
  • P: Experience in leading courses, revising content, and developing new programs
