We are seeking an experienced Domain Architect to lead the architecture strategy for one or more business domains, ensuring technology capabilities align with business objectives while enabling scalable digital transformation.
The Domain Architect will own the architectural vision for their domain, working across business and technology teams to define target architectures, modernise application landscapes, establish governance and guide delivery teams through complex transformation programmes.
This role requires a strategic thinker who can bridge business capabilities with technology solutions while maintaining a strong focus on simplification, standardisation and long-term value.
Key Responsibilities
Domain Ownership
- Own the end-to-end architecture for an assigned business domain.
- Develop and maintain domain capability maps, target architectures and technology roadmaps.
- Translate business strategy into actionable architecture initiatives.
- Drive architectural consistency across products, applications, data and integrations.
Business Architecture
- Partner with senior business stakeholders to understand strategic priorities and future operating models.
- Map business capabilities, customer journeys and value streams.
- Identify opportunities to simplify processes and improve business outcomes through technology.
- Ensure architecture supports organisational growth, scalability and innovation.
- Define and evolve the application landscape within the domain.
- Lead application rationalisation and modernisation initiatives.
- Design scalable, reusable and secure solution patterns.
- Ensure interoperability across enterprise platforms and shared services.
- Promote API-first and event-driven architectural principles.
Data & Integration
- Define domain data ownership and information flows.
- Support master data management and enterprise data governance.
- Collaborate with data architects to establish scalable data architectures.
- Review solution designs for compliance with enterprise standards.
- Participate in Architecture Review Boards and governance forums.
- Define architecture principles, standards and reference architectures.
- Assess technical risks, dependencies and cross-domain impacts.
- Support delivery teams throughout the project lifecycle.
- Develop transition architectures from current to target state.
- Identify opportunities to reduce technical debt and optimise technology investments.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend adoption where appropriate.
Stakeholder Management
- Build strong relationships with business leaders, product owners, engineering teams and enterprise architects.
- Facilitate architecture workshops and design sessions.
- Present architecture strategies and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Mentor solution architects and technical teams across the organisation.
Required Experience
- 12+ years of experience in Enterprise Architecture, Domain Architecture or Solution Architecture.
- Proven experience defining target architectures for large, complex organisations.
- Strong background in business capability modelling and domain-driven architecture.
- Experience leading application transformation and modernisation initiatives.
- Demonstrated success supporting enterprise-wide digital transformation programmes.
- Experience working across multiple business and technology functions.
- Strong governance and architecture review experience.
- Excellent German (and English) communication and stakeholder management skills.
