Director, Trade Development and Promotion

The Arab Trade Financing Program aims to onboard a "Director, Trade Development and Promotion" leading the Trade Development and Promotion Department, reporting to the Chief Executive, Chairman of the Board.

Job Purpose

The Director of Trade Development and Promotion leads the design and execution of ATFP’s trade promotion strategies, ensuring alignment with the institution’s strategic objectives. This role focuses on expanding trade finance activities, fostering regional partnerships, and enhancing ATFP’s market visibility. The Director is also accountable for developing innovative trade products, managing compliance with international standards, and driving the department’s operational excellence and stakeholder engagement efforts.

Key Accountability Areas and Activities

The key activities include, but are not limited to, the following :

• Oversee and coordinate divisional activities, ensuring effective supervision, performance tracking, and cross-functional alignment with ATFP’s trade development priorities.
• Formulate and implement ATFP’s trade promotion and development strategies and policies to enhance market impact.
• Conduct trade market research and develop tailored products (e.g., guarantees, Islamic finance products, structured trade finance) that respond to the needs of Arab exporters and importers.
• Design and execute a comprehensive marketing strategy aimed at expanding financing activities and commercial service offerings.
• Facilitate communication and collaboration with organizations and financial institutions involved in financing services and trade development.
• Strengthen partnerships with regional and international institutions engaged in trade finance and guarantees.
• Establish and maintain strategic relationships with national agencies and key stakeholders across Arab state members.
• Represent ATFP in meetings, seminars, and conferences, advocating for ATFP’s trade development initiatives and objectives.
• Ensure department-wide compliance with international trade standards, financial regulations, and risk policies.
• Provide timely reports to senior management and relevant committees.
• Contribute to ATFP’s annual report and knowledge materials by providing insights on trade policy, promotional activities, and product innovation.
• Contribute to the design and execution of the department's strategic objectives and goals, ensuring alignment with ATFP’s vision.
• Develop and oversee the implementation of operational plans, supporting the realization of ATFP’s future growth strategy.
• Collaborate with ATFP staff and leadership to identify and implement key projects and initiatives that advance long-term organizational aspirations.
• Implement proactive measures to sustain the effectiveness and efficiency of the department.
• Assess risks and establish risk mitigation plans in accordance with ATFP’s risk management framework.
• Manage the department’s budgeting cycle, providing strategic input into the budgeting process to ensure financial efficiency.
• Ensure the effective utilization of the department’s budget, accurately reporting progress and challenges encountered.
• Lead policy enhancements and oversee the implementation of procedures and controls to ensure compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements while optimizing operational efficiency.
• Motivate team members and facilitate continuous improvement of processes, systems, and best practices, with a focus on cost reduction and productivity enhancement.
• Oversee daily operations to ensure adherence to stipulated policies and procedures.
• Conduct periodic reviews of the department’s business process manual, identifying strengths, areas for improvement, and implementing corrective actions.
• Establish and maintain strategic partnerships with both internal stakeholders (e.g., ATFP departments) and external entities (e.g., financial institutions), ensuring alignment with ATFP’s strategic objectives.
• Strengthen and sustain high-impact relationships with relevant stakeholders, fostering collaboration and mutual business growth.
• Gain market insights on business opportunities, local market trends, and the regulatory landscape, leveraging this knowledge to enhance stakeholder engagement strategies.
• Lead, guide, and support the team’s performance, ensuring adherence to ATFP’s policies and operational standards.
• Set performance objectives, provide necessary training and feedback, conduct performance evaluations, and foster professional growth to enhance team capabilities.
• Cultivate a high-performance work environment, embracing ATFP’s core values and fostering a results-driven culture.
• Develop and mentor team members to ensure knowledge transfer and leadership pipeline within the department.

Qualifications and Requirements

• A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in banking, trade finance, or export promotion, with a minimum of 5 years in a senior leadership position.
• Experience in international trade facilitation, financial institutions, or development banks is highly desirable
• Bachelor’s degree in marketing or business administration. A master’s degree is preferred.
• Excellent communication and writing skills in Arabic and English. French, as a third language, is a solid advantage
