Job description

Responsibilities:

Clinical Expertise & Patient Care:

  • Accurate Diagnosis and Treatment: Employ a wide range of diagnostic techniques to pinpoint health conditions and develop effective treatment plans.
  • Comprehensive Patient Evaluation: Conduct thorough assessments, order and interpret investigations, and administer appropriate therapies.
  • Data-Driven Diagnostic Reasoning: Synthesise medical history, physical examinations, and test results to formulate precise diagnoses.
  • Evidence-Based Patient Management: Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care adhering to established clinical guidelines.
  • Collaborative Communication: Facilitate seamless communication between patients, families, referring physicians, and the healthcare team to ensure coordinated care.
  • Shared Decision-Making: Engage patients and their families in collaborative treatment planning, particularly in pediatric cases.
  • Efficient Referral Management: Initiate and manage referrals to specialist services and other healthcare providers as needed during and after hospitalisation.
  • Post-Discharge Coordination: Arrange necessary follow-up care with medical and rehabilitation services to support patient recovery.
  • Transparent Communication of Changes: Keep families and relevant specialists informed of significant changes in patient status.
  • Critical Thinking and Decision-Making: Apply critical thinking skills to medical decision-making within the clinical team.
  • Interdisciplinary Teamwork: Foster a collaborative environment among healthcare professionals, prioritising patient safety.
  • Patient Confidentiality: Uphold strict patient privacy and confidentiality standards.
  • Medical Staff Coordination: Direct and coordinate the activities of consultants, specialists, general practitioners, and other medical personnel.
  • Administrative Patient Management: Handle administrative tasks related to patient care and the operation of the Internal Medicine department.
  • Clinical Support for Colleagues: Provide clinical guidance and support to other Internal Medicine physicians.

Administrative & Quality Assurance:

  • Departmental Task Management: Delegate and oversee departmental tasks to ensure efficient and high-quality patient service.
  • Performance Evaluation: Conduct performance reviews and appraisals of departmental staff.
  • Accreditation Participation: Actively participate in JAWDA audits, JCI, and CARF accreditation processes.
  • Incident Report Management: Review and address departmental incident reports, coordinating with the Quality Department for corrective actions.
  • Hospital Representation: Serve as a positive representative of the hospital to patients, visitors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Physician Scheduling: Manage the work schedules of departmental physicians.

Education & Development:

  • Patient and Caregiver Education: Promote holistic care and provide health education to patients and their caregivers.
  • Protocol and Policy Development: Lead the development of clinical protocols, pathways, and policies for the Internal Medicine department.
  • Continuous Professional Development: Encourage and support ongoing medical education and professional development within the department.
