The Director of Engineering is a highly visible role with exposure to senior and corporate leadership, reporting directly to the hotel General Manager.

The Director of Engineering oversees the maintenance department, ensuring the hotel’s appearance and operational functionality. Key responsibilities include maintaining the exterior, parking lot, common areas, guest room equipment, conducting safety inspections, staff safety training, vendor collaboration, responding to emergencies, and managing remodeling projects and capital expenditures. The role requires project management skills, maintenance expertise, and troubleshooting abilities.

Key duties include:

  • Reviewing and negotiating contracts with vendors, consultants, and suppliers
  • Requisitioning supplies for construction projects
  • Collaborating with stakeholders on new projects, work procedures, and problem resolution
  • Explaining plans and contract terms to staff and clients
  • Managing maintenance activities for structures, facilities, and systems
  • Preparing budgets and tracking project costs
  • Implementing quality control programs
  • Ensuring compliance with building and safety codes
  • Coordinating with officials on regulations and community standards
  • Managing utility systems and equipment procurement
  • Maintaining communication with corporate staff
  • Coaching employees to align with Hyatt’s service standards
  • Contributing to infrastructure and development strategies
  • Supporting energy conservation and sustainability initiatives
Qualifications
  • Ability to interact effectively with diverse backgrounds
  • Minimum of 6 years’ progressive hotel or building management experience, preferably with Hyatt
  • Service-oriented with professional presentation skills
  • Senior facilities management experience
  • Proven leadership capabilities
  • Engineering or Facility Management degree preferred
  • Strong project management, energy, entrepreneurial spirit, motivation, communication, customer service, and profitability skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel
  • Knowledge of project regulations and standards
