We’re Hiring: Director of Engineering
We are seeking an experienced, strategic, and technically strong Director of Engineering to lead the organization’s engineering function and drive technical excellence, innovation, operational efficiency, and successful delivery of major engineering initiatives.
The successful candidate will provide strategic and technical leadership across engineering teams, projects, systems, and operations while ensuring that engineering activities are aligned with business objectives, quality standards, budgets, timelines, and regulatory requirements.
The ideal candidate should be an experienced engineering leader with strong technical expertise, commercial awareness, excellent people-management capabilities, and a proven track record of delivering complex engineering projects and building high-performing teams.
- Develop and implement the overall engineering strategy, roadmap, standards, and objectives in alignment with organizational goals.
- Provide strategic and technical leadership across all engineering functions, projects, and initiatives.
- Lead, mentor, and develop engineering managers, senior engineers, technical specialists, and project teams.
- Build and maintain high-performing engineering teams with clear responsibilities, performance expectations, and development plans.
- Oversee the planning, design, development, implementation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of engineering projects and systems.
- Ensure engineering projects are delivered on time, within budget, and according to approved scope, quality, safety, and performance standards.
- Establish engineering policies, procedures, technical standards, design guidelines, and best practices.
- Review and approve engineering designs, specifications, technical proposals, methodologies, and project plans where appropriate.
- Monitor engineering performance, project progress, resource utilization, costs, risks, quality, and key performance indicators.
- Manage engineering budgets, forecasts, capital expenditure, procurement, and resource allocation.
- Identify and implement opportunities for cost optimization, process improvement, automation, and operational efficiency.
- Drive innovation and adoption of emerging technologies, engineering tools, systems, and industry best practices.
- Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards, technical regulations, environmental requirements, safety standards, and company policies.
- Lead technical risk assessments and develop appropriate mitigation and contingency strategies.
- Work closely with Operations, Finance, Procurement, Project Management, Quality, Safety, Commercial, and other departments.
- Manage relationships with engineering consultants, contractors, suppliers, technology providers, regulators, and strategic partners.
- Lead technical evaluations, vendor selections, engineering tenders, and major procurement decisions where required.
- Resolve complex technical, operational, project, and engineering-related issues in a timely and effective manner.
- Establish appropriate engineering quality assurance and quality control processes.
- Monitor industry developments, technological advancements, regulatory changes, and emerging engineering trends.
- Provide technical advice and strategic recommendations to senior management and the executive leadership team.
- Prepare and present engineering performance reports, project updates, investment proposals, risk assessments, and strategic recommendations.
- Support business development, product development, expansion projects, and other strategic initiatives requiring engineering expertise.
- Promote a strong culture of safety, technical excellence, accountability, innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Proven experience as a Director of Engineering, Engineering Director, Head of Engineering, Engineering Manager, or in a similar senior engineering leadership role.
- Extensive experience managing engineering teams, complex projects, technical operations, or large-scale engineering programs.
- Strong technical knowledge relevant to the organization’s engineering discipline and industry.
- Proven track record of delivering engineering projects successfully within budget, schedule, quality, and performance requirements.
- Strong leadership and people-management capabilities with experience developing high-performing technical teams.
- Excellent project management, strategic planning, budgeting, and resource management skills.
- Strong understanding of engineering standards, quality management, risk management, safety, and regulatory compliance.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.
- Strong commercial awareness with the ability to evaluate technical solutions from both operational and financial perspectives.
- Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong experience working with contractors, consultants, suppliers, regulators, and senior executives.
- Proficiency in relevant engineering software, project management systems, ERP platforms, or technical management tools is an advantage.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline is required.
- Professional engineering license, chartered engineer status, or relevant professional certification is highly desirable.
- Master’s degree, MBA, or advanced technical qualification will be an added advantage.
- Relevant experience in managing large-scale, multi-disciplinary, or international engineering projects is highly desirable.
