Job description

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Communications Director with a strong background in handling both internal and external communications. The role will be based in Abu Dhabi and will oversee a team of 20 professionals. This position is critical in managing high-level communications, dealing with sensitive and sometimes complex issues, and ensuring effective collaboration across various internal and external stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience in PR, government-to-government (G2G) communications, and internal communications, with a proven ability to manage large teams and deliver results under pressure.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead a team of 20 communication professionals, including managing internal communications, PR, and Arabic/English content creation.
  2. Oversee major external communications on behalf of the Abu Dhabi government, including significant announcements and high-level deals.
  3. Work directly with senior leadership, including the Executive Director, Director General, and Chairman, ensuring clear, effective communication across all levels.
  4. Manage relationships with external communication agencies and provide clear briefs to ensure messaging aligns with organisational goals.
  5. Develop and manage communications strategies that protect and enhance the organisation's reputation, particularly in the public and government sectors.
  6. Handle difficult conversations with confidence, managing sensitive issues and pushing back when necessary to protect the integrity of the organisation's communications.
  7. Work closely with internal directorates to coordinate communications across various departments, ensuring consistency and alignment of messaging.
  8. Support G2G communications and manage interactions with other Abu Dhabi entities.

Requirements:

  1. In alignment with the client's Emiratisation objectives, this role is exclusively open to UAE Nationals holding a Family Book.
  2. Minimum of 10 years experience in communications, with a proven track record in managing internal and external communications at a senior level.
  3. Strong background in PR, internal communications, and government-to-government communications, ideally within the UAE or GCC region.
  4. Experience in leading large teams, particularly in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.
  5. Deep understanding of the nuances of government communications and the ability to navigate complex political and cultural landscapes.
  6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Arabic.
  7. Ability to provide clear direction and strategic guidance to both internal teams and external partners.
  8. Comfortable working in a role where decision-making and the ability to manage difficult issues and conversations are paramount.
  9. A confident, strategic leader who can push back when needed, providing alternatives that safeguard the organization's reputation and brand.

Additional Information:

This role does not involve event management, social media, or branding (these functions are managed under the Marketing Director). This is a communications-focused role, with an emphasis on PR, internal communications, and G2G communications.
