Develop, direct and implement Company’s regional engineering strategy in line with HO direction. Direct and share company’s policies, standards and best practices in SSA region to ensure correct communication and collaboration. Ensure implementation of processes and procedures that are cost efficient and with due regard for safety, quality and productivity. Guide and support Business Units with the procurement of Strategic Equipment.

Ensuring and monitoring the main KPIs performance for main port equipment (QCs, RTGs, MHCs, Spreaders, RS, ECHs, ITVs, FLs and power stations) and review utilization, availability, reliability, MMBF etc.

Promote and drive equipment automation and processes integration with TOS and other systems across all departments.

Ensure standardization of processes and develop engineering planning skills in all BUs to improve efficiency.

Assist BUs to have and maintain CAPEX and OPEX budgets.

Organize and conduct engineering / operational assessments of Business Units to ensure standardization of structures.

Help accomplish objectives by bringing a systematic approach to analyse and improve the effectiveness of the engineering. Provide an objective quality assurance to bring added value and provide for continuous improvement of DP World’s Business Units.

Direct BUs to follow best practices, green port solutions, Lean and Reliability approaches for Engineering activities. Promote DP World’s decarbonisation strategy in the region in alignment with GOE.

Provide technical support for BUs during expansions and new equipment’s purchasing.

Participate in new takeovers and due diligence activities and provide technical feedback

Key Performance Areas :

Operational Excellence & Process Improvement

  • Implement and support the Reliability Framework for core terminal equipment in the BU’s to achieve a state-of-the-art fleet of equipment that supports reliable and safe operations.
  • Develop innovation culture driven by example.
  • Innovate and looking for new technologies based on BU requirements and challenges by evaluating the technical feasibility to increase port efficiency and productivity through systems and technologies, working closely with Engineering, Operations, and IT.
  • Foster a regional culture of reducing waste without destroying value and be a key player in implementing Lean thinking and acting.
  • Ensuring the quality of data from BUs in GEAR, MAXIMO, POWER BI and DATA LAKE and updated on time automatically correctly.
  • Drive fit for purpose Engineering information, based on both lagging and leading KPI’s. Drive the installation, roll-out and process standardization through Maximo align with Global Engineering.
  • Support the long-term planning of the business units.
  • Support and develop Engineering Risk Registers in all business Units, following Global Standard.
  • Own Engineering Safety.
  • Ensuring best practices, availability of SOPs, equipment breakdowns analysis and spare parts availability.
  • Create, generate, plan, review update, organise and manage the internal assessment plans which fulfil the responsibility of the terminals, scheduling and assigning work and estimating resource needs.
  • Involvement in the establishing of processes that represent the most effective way of achieving DP World’s engineering objectives.
  • Generate assessment reporting for the region and business unit. Meet regularly with DP World Senior management to ensure strategy and vision is assured and aligned with best business practise.
  • Share best practice :

  • Share company’s policies, standards and best practices and system solutions via weekly and monthly calls, direct communication with BUs and during annual regional meeting.
  • Ensure implementation of processes and procedures that are cost efficient and with due regard for safety, quality and productivity.
  • Help to keep BUs up to date about the latest technologies in our industry.
  • Emphasise testing new technologies and innovations to improve safety and machine’s performance.
  • Job Context

  • DP world needs to ensure terminals work up to a minimum operational standard and to ensure the terminals work in the most efficient manner, therefore standards audits and Business process improvement audits are conducted.
  • Writing, publishing and communicating policies, procedures and best practices to be communicated to other business units by means of modern media. Communication across the portfolio is a fundamental part of the daily activity.
  • Occasionally business units that face unexpected difficulty, system migration or start-ups need specific hands on interim management this involves significant travel.
  • The build up a documented set of standards and guidelines for the various modes of operation.
  • Multicultural working environments with basic utilities missing. Deployments all around the SSA region will required 20% of the time out side home.
  • Qualifications Required :

  • Experience and Skills Required :

  • Minimum 7 years’ experience within container terminal operations with a keen interest in best business practices and process improvement.
  • Detailed knowledge of Port & ICD Equipment ( QCs, RTGs, MHCs, Spreaders, RS, ECHs , ITVs , FLs and power stations).
  • Knowledge of equipment automation.
  • In depth knowledge of container terminals organization, engineering, resource planning, procedures, business processes, budgeting and related financial controls.
  • Knowledge of Safety, Environmental and Security and how they relate to terminal.
  • Analytical thinking towards successful process continuous improvement and procedures.
  • LEAN six sigma knowledge.
  • Innovative and critical thinking.
  • Excellent presentation skills, can persuade people and explain complex matters with ease.
  • Ability to communicate in multicultural environment from blue collars to executive management.
  • Strong relationship management skills, ability to convince people.
  • Ability to deliver staff training when required.
  • Capable and hands on to swiftly build or analyse large Excel files and financial models.
  • Capable of writing well-structured reports and business models.
  • Showing interest to grow and eager to develop.
  • Ability to evolve and understand the diversity among the regions.
