Job summary

Inception42, a G42 company in Abu Dhabi, seeks a Director of R&D in Applied AI to guide multi-program research portfolios, including foundation language models and multi-agent systems. You will oversee producerise research outputs for strategic client delivery, set technical direction, and act as chief arbiter on releases and partnerships.

You will lead a team of applied scientists, shape talent strategy, and represent the function at executive and Board levels, driving impact across national AI

Qualifications

• M.S./Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, or an AI-related field; NLP/LLM focus desirable.
• 10+ years in AI/ML with at least 4 years in a technical leadership or director role.
• Ownership of at least one end-to-end production foundation-model release.
• Strong publication record in NLP/ML venues or product-driven IP filings.
• Experience with Arabic or low-resource language NLP at scale.
• Experience deploying AI models in regulated/government contexts including guardrails.
• Hands-on familiarity with agentic-AI architectures (planning, tools, multi-agent simulation).
• Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Own the active R&D portfolio end-to-end, set technical direction, and represent it at executive/Board levels.
• Direct foundation language model and multi-agent programs; oversee client-delivery tracks that productize research outputs.
• Be the technical arbiter on releases, IP decisions, and partner engagements; lead external collaboration workstreams.
• Mentor and grow a team of applied scientists; define team structure and talent strategy.
• Set and enforce R&D quality standards across projects and teams.
