Job summary

The National in Abu Dhabi is seeking a skilled Digital Sub-Editor to join its editorial team. Reporting to the Chief Sub-Editor, you will review, edit and elevate content across articles, video, newsletters and blogs, ensuring accuracy, clarity and consistency in The National's distinctive style and tone.

You will edit headlines and captions, work closely with writers and the graphics team, and manage content prioritisation to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced newsroom environment.

Qualifications

• A graduate degree or equivalent work experience.
• Six+ years of experience in journalism, reporting and desktop publishing.
• Hands-on experience with an editorial CMS.
• Fluency in written and spoken English; strong knowledge of current affairs, particularly in the Middle East.

Responsibilities

• Edit stories, videos, newsletters and blog posts with accuracy, grammar and readability.
• Write engaging and online-optimised headlines to draw readers to our digital platforms.
• Collaborate closely with writers, editors and other members of the Production team to produce high-quality content.
• Edit captions for video and work with our graphics team to ensure all content meets our standards for clarity and engagement.
• Manage content prioritisation, adapting to the demands of a fast-paced newsroom environment.
• Ensure all content adheres to The National’s style and tone while meeting tight deadlines.

Role Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Digital Sub-Editor to join our dynamic team. Reporting to the Chief Sub-Editor, the Digital Sub-Editor will play a crucial role in reviewing, editing and elevating content across various platforms, including video, podcasts, online articles and blogs. The ideal candidate will ensure accuracy, clarity and consistency while maintaining The National’s distinctive style and tone.
