Zayed National Museum is located at the heart of Saadiyat Cultural District Abu Dhabi. Role Purpose:
Lead the strategic development and delivery of inspiring, inclusive, and innovative digital learning experiences that engage diverse audiences onsite, online, and offsite. The Section Head will champion the use of emerging technologies and ensure digital learning is embedded across all public engagement programmes, enhancing the museum’s reach and impact locally and globally.
Job responsibilities:
Strategy & Leadership
- Develop and implement the Digital Learning Strategy and contribute to the museum's 5-Year Plan and departmental initiatives.
- Lead the strategic development and innovation of digital engagement offers to expand reach to new and underserved audiences.
- Establish goals, policies, procedures, and resource needs for digital learning in alignment with ZNM’s broader objectives.
- Oversee the section's KPI targets, variances, budgets, monitoring and reporting throughout the year in collaboration with the relevant unit heads and finance team.
Digital Learning & Engagement
- Design and oversee digital learning resources, visitor experiences, and interpretive content that are engaging and inclusive for all generations.
- Collaborate across departments (especially Learning & Public Engagement) to embed digital learning in programmes, events, publications, and visitor touchpoints.
- Identify and pilot learning technologies to enhance learning experiences (e.g., AR/VR/XR, apps, AI, digital interactives).
- Ensure that all of our visitors have outstanding opportunities to visit our spectacular museum onsite, online, and offsite through digital interpretive content and learning technologies.
- Ensure digital content is inclusive and accessible, especially for People of Determination and other underrepresented groups.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate creative digital learning opportunities, including online programmes, unique in-person digitally supported workshops, and other ideas such as comics, animation, film, theatre, and future learning.
- Continually stay on top of emerging technologies, tools and trends and ensure ZNM is engaging on these in relevant and meaningful ways onsite and digitally and recommend new initiatives to keep us at the forefront of digital engagement opportunities.
Platform Development
- Lead the development and management of digital learning platforms (e.g., VLEs, apps, online outreach, social media, digital interactives).
- Create and maintain a digital product roadmap, including defining product requirements, features, and delivery processes.
- Oversee development and delivery of diverse digital interpretive experiences such as virtual school programmes, online workshops, comics, animation, film, and other creative formats.
Partnerships & Collaboration
- Work closely with educators, curators, designers, and external experts to co-create impactful digital experiences.
- Cultivate and manage third-party relationships to ensure use of market-leading technologies and practices.
Quality, Safeguarding & Evaluation
- Ensure all digital activities align with legal standards and safeguarding policies.
- Serve as the museum’s chief online safeguarding coordinator for digital engagement.
- Establish processes to evaluate digital engagement impact, gather insights, and refine approaches based on user needs and trends.
Shared Activities
- Ensure effective cascading of the functional strategy into section business plans to ensure vertical alignment and horizontal integration with other interfacing sectional strategies.
- Manage the effective achievement of assigned objectives through the leadership of the Section by setting of individual objectives, managing performance, developing and motivating staff to maximize performance.
- Lead the talent development initiatives for the assigned section, collaborating with technical/discipline experts and thereby ensure the availability of talent to fit business requirements.
- Act as a role model and drive adherence to organizational values and ethics by employees of the assigned section to foster a value driven culture within the organization.
- Manage the preparation and recommend the section budget and monitor financial performance versus the budget while ensuring all sectional activities are conducted in line with the approved guidelines.
- Manage and ensure effective implementation of functional policies, procedures and controls covering all areas of assigned section activity so that all relevant procedural/legislative requirements are fulfilled while delivering a quality, cost-effective service.
- Lead the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement and sustainability of systems, processes and practices considering global standards, productivity improvement and cost reduction.
- Adhere to the DCT Occupational Safety and Health policy, regulations, and laws, and provide help to the Corporate EHS in executing the OSHMS.
- Report any incidents, near misses, occupational illnesses, unsafe practices, and conditions immediately to the concerned person and participate in the investigation of OSH incidents, as required.
Qualification and Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Museum Studies, Digital Media, Learning Technology, or related field.
- Formal certification in Education Technology, creative industries (e.g., broadcasting, gaming, digital design etc.) is highly prefered.
- Minimum 8–10 years of experience in digital learning, public engagement, interpretation or other related areas, preferably in a museum or cultural institution.
- Proven experience leading projects from strategy to implementation.
- Strong knowledge of current and emerging learning technologies and platforms.
- Experience managing teams and budgets.
