Job summary

WSP USA seeks a Creative and curious Digital Consultant Intern to join the Smart & Digital team for a six‑month internship in the UAE. You will blend technology with design to shape user-centered digital products for cities, buildings and infrastructure.

You’ll support client-facing research, digital strategy and product development, translating user needs into actionable concepts while collaborating with consultants, developers and designers across multidisciplinary projects.

Qualifications

• Pursuing or recently completed bachelor’s or master’s degree in product/digital design or related field.
• Portfolio demonstrating design process and digital products.
• Professional proficiency in English.

Responsibilities

• Support digital consulting engagements: research, benchmarking, requirements gathering, client-facing presentations.

We are seeking a creative and curious Digital Consultant Intern to join our growing Smart & Digital team for a six-month internship. The ideal candidate will combine an interest in technology and digital consulting with strong capabilities in digital experience design, UI/UX design and product design. The intern will support multidisciplinary projects for cities, buildings and infrastructure, contributing to the development of user‑centred digital products, services and experiences. This role offers hands‑on exposure to client‑facing consulting, digital strategy, product development and emerging technologies within the built environment.

• Support digital consulting engagements, including research, benchmarking, requirements gathering and the preparation of client‑facing presentations and reports.
• Contribute to digital transformation, smart city and smart building projects by translating user, business and technical needs into clear digital concepts.
• Support the design of user‑centred digital products and services, from early discovery and ideation through to prototyping and refinement.
• Develop customer journeys, user flows, information architecture, wireframes, mock‑ups and interactive prototypes.
• Create intuitive and visually compelling user interfaces for web, mobile, dashboard and platform experiences.
• Contribute to digital experience strategies that improve usability, accessibility, engagement and consistency across touchpoints.
• Support user research and usability activities, including interview preparation, synthesis of findings and incorporation of feedback into design decisions.
• Assist in creating and maintaining design systems, component libraries and reusable interface patterns.
• Collaborate with consultants, product managers, software developers, data specialists, engineers and designers to align product concepts with delivery requirements.
• Support workshops and client meetings through visual storytelling, concept development, presentation design and clear documentation.
• Explore practical applications of AI, Generative AI, digital twins, IoT, data platforms and other emerging technologies in cities, buildings and infrastructure.
• Use AI‑assisted design workflows responsibly to accelerate research, ideation, prototyping, visualisation and content development.
• Contribute to proposals, capability materials, demonstrations and thought‑leadership content for the Smart & Digital team.
• Manage assigned tasks with attention to quality, deadlines and feedback, while working effectively in a fast‑paced consulting environment.
• Currently pursuing, or recently completed, a bachelor’s or master’s degree in product design, digital design, UX/UI design, interaction design, multimedia design, human‑computer interaction, design engineering, digital innovation or a related field.
• A portfolio demonstrating a thoughtful design process and relevant work in digital products, UX/UI, product design, digital experiences or multidisciplinary innovation.
• Working knowledge of CAD / 3D modeling tools.
• Working knowledge of Figma and familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent design tools.
• Understanding of human‑centred design, design thinking, user journeys, wireframing, prototyping and usability principles.
• Ability to communicate ideas clearly through visual storytelling, presentations, diagrams and written content.
• Strong interest in technology, digital transformation and the application of emerging technologies to the built environment.
• Good analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to connect user needs, business objectives and technical considerations.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams.
• Ability to organise work, respond constructively to feedback and adapt to changing project needs.
• Professional proficiency in English.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• Academic, professional, freelance or personal projects involving product development, digital experience design, UI/UX design, service design or technology-enabled innovation.
• Experience creating interactive prototypes, design systems, dashboards, mobile or web interfaces.
• Exposure to user research, service design, branding, motion graphics, visualisation, photography or multimedia production.
• Familiarity with digital product development and collaboration with technical or software development teams.
• Interest in AI-assisted design tools and emerging creative technologies.
• Awareness of smart cities, smart buildings, digital twins, geospatial platforms, data visualisation or IoT solutions is advantageous but not essential.
• Experience presenting design concepts or project outcomes to clients, academic reviewers or other stakeholders is advantageous.
