Summary Description:
The position of Deck Hand (DH) or Deckeneer (DR) is not a USCG licensed positions. The positions are considered laborers on the vessel. They would be responsible and part of their duties of generally accepted maritime deck and engine room operations aboard the vessel.
Qualifications and Experience:
Deckhand (DH) or Deckeneer (DR) should be able to read, write, and react and or give commands in English; specifically for safety of all on board. The DH or DR should be able to safely complete deck duties, basic seamanship, general cleaning, and painting. The DR shall be required to complete basic engine room duties including but not limited to internal fuel and water transfer (s), loading & discharge of fuel and water, engine service, (change filters and lubricants) basic troubleshooting, engine room cleaning, and maintaining a basic engine room logbook.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a similar position is preferred
- Basic STCWs (BST, SSA, CCM)
- Discharge book
- Certificate of Competence
- Yellow Fever vaccine
- Valid C1-D Visa is a plus
- Knowledge of the maritime industry and related regulations
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Able to work in extreme weather conditions
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Must pass a background check and drug test
