Overview
Job Purpose:
The Data Center Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and strategic planning of multiple data center facilities. This role ensures optimal performance, reliability, and efficiency of all critical infrastructure systems including power, cooling, security, and network connectivity. The manager will lead cross-functional teams, coordinate with vendors, contribute in costing & Tendering and implement best practices to support high availability and business continuity.
Responsibilities
- Facility Oversight: Manage operations across multiple data center sites, ensuring compliance with SLAs, safety standards, and operational procedures.
- Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor data center technicians and facility engineers. Coordinate staffing schedules, training, and performance evaluations.
- Operational Excellence: Develop and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) and emergency response protocols. Lead IMACS (Install, Move, Add, Change, Support) activities and ensure proper documentation.
- Vendor & Contractor Management: Oversee third-party service providers for maintenance, repairs, and upgrades. Ensure timely execution of approved work orders including installation of branch circuits, breakers, and receptacles.
- Monitoring & Reporting: Utilize DCIM (Data Center Infrastructure Management) tools to monitor performance and capacity. Prepare regular reports on uptime, incidents, energy usage, and operational metrics.
- Risk & Compliance: Ensure compliance with local regulations, environmental standards, and corporate policies. Manage contingency plans including fuel delivery (e.g., bowser mobilization) during diesel system failures.
- Budget & Planning: Assist in budgeting for facility upgrades, maintenance, and staffing. Participate in strategic planning for expansion, sustainability, and technology adoption.
- Costing & Tendering: Study and respond to RFP, understand the DC design and engineering. Communicate with all vendors/OEMs/suppliers to get quotations for costing Annual Maintenance Contracts. Coordinate with the vendors/OEMs on identifying critical spare parts and necessary consumables. Understand and estimate CAPEX & OPEX to include in the costing.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- 7+ years of experience in data center operations or critical infrastructure management.
- Strong knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems.
- Experience with DCIM platforms and BMS (Building Management Systems).
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to travel between data center sites as needed.
Other Requirements
- Uptime Institute Accredited Tier Designer or Specialist
- BICSI, PMP, or ITIL certification
- OSHA or other safety-related certifications
