The role is a great opportunity for candidates eager to tackle some of today’s most important legal challenges in this cutting-edge area of law. Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and organizational needs is essential. Additionally, the candidate must be able to operate independently within a small but growing international legal team, working in a vibrant, fast-paced environment.

This role will provide strategic and tactical legal counseling to internal legal, product, operations, and business teams on a range of privacy, data protection, and security-related legal and compliance initiatives and disputes for the group of companies. The role also involves developing and maintaining relationships with data protection regulators throughout the Middle East and globally. This is a full-time position based in Abu Dhabi.

Associate General Counsel, Data Protection, Middle East and Africa (MEA) Responsibilities:
  • Assist healthcare product lawyers in evaluating the impact of privacy laws, regulatory guidance, enforcement actions, and related guidelines on product features.
  • Support legal, business, and policy teams on privacy and security-related legal matters, including partnerships, acquisitions, and business development opportunities.
  • Develop regulatory strategies for new product features and initiatives, and coordinate responses to inquiries from data protection regulators in those regions.
  • Drive high-profile projects involving privacy analysis and compliance across various stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the wider legal team on regulatory and data protection issues.
  • Draft and oversee the development of terms and data policies across the company's healthcare products.
  • Develop and conduct data protection training for staff across the organization.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • 8+ years of legal experience, including at a law firm or in-house with internet or technology companies, especially in regulatory or product counseling.
  • Experience with global privacy laws, regulations, and industry guidelines relevant to healthcare.
  • Qualified to practice law in at least one Middle Eastern jurisdiction (e.g., UK, US, Australia, Canada, Ireland).
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and advise under deadlines.
  • Strong business judgment and client counseling skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Deep knowledge of legal issues related to health cards, medical devices, and laboratories, including regional or country-specific data protection laws.
  • Experience working with data protection authorities in the Middle East and Africa.
  • Experience managing large-scale data protection projects across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
