Job Overview:
Cost Controller is responsible for managing project costs to ensure that they remain within the established budget. This role involves monitoring expenditures, preparing cost forecasts, analyzing variances, and providing financial insights to support effective decision-making. The Cost Controller works closely with project teams, procurement, and finance to maintain financial discipline and optimize cost efficiency throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Accountabilities
- Collaborate with project managers to prepare detailed project budgets based on scope and deliverables.
- Establish cost control systems and monitor project expenditures to ensure alignment with budgets.
- Track and document all project costs, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor expenses.
- Prepare and present regular cost reports, highlighting variances and their root causes.
- Update cost forecasts based on project progress and anticipated changes.
- Analyze cost variances and identify factors contributing to budget overruns or savings.
- Work with project teams to develop corrective actions to address variances.
- Collaborate with the procurement team to ensure cost-effective purchasing practices.
- Review vendor and subcontractor invoices for accuracy and compliance with contracts.
- Identify potential financial risks and provide recommendations for mitigation.
- Maintain contingency plans for addressing unplanned expenditures.
- Participate in project planning and review meetings to provide financial insights.
- Assist in preparing cost-related documentation for client billing and audits.
- Develop and implement cost control policies and procedures to improve efficiency.
- Stay updated with industry best practices and cost management tools.
- Perform any other related tasks required by the direct manager.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in cost control or financial management within the FM industry
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Finance, Accounting, or a related field. Construction estimation or finance experience is advantageous.
