Role Context
This position provides continuous operational oversight of production facilities where accurate process monitoring and timely intervention are essential to maintaining oil and gas production, water injection, equipment integrity, and personnel safety. Working from the Control Centre, the Control Room Operator monitors plant conditions while maintaining close communication with field production personnel, maintenance teams, and the Duty Operations Engineer. The role also coordinates activities involving wellheads, flow lines, transfer lines, preventive maintenance, work permits, plant protection systems, and equipment handover.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and control continuous plant operations from the Control Centre in accordance with approved operating procedures.
- Observe process parameters across oil, gas, utilities, well pads, and associated production facilities.
- Identify causes of production limitations and highlight opportunities to improve operational performance.
- Recommend appropriate operational adjustments that support company oil and gas production and water injection targets.
- Monitor process alarms and abnormal operating conditions and initiate timely corrective actions.
- Respond safely to plant upsets in accordance with standing instructions, operating procedures, and established limits.
- Maintain close control of critical process parameters to protect personnel, equipment, production, and asset integrity.
- Coordinate with ADNOC Onshore operations personnel regarding the daily quantity and quality of produced oil and gas.
- Support accurate hydrocarbon accounting through timely exchange and verification of production information.
- Coordinate field activities associated with surface facility preventive maintenance plans.
- Support preventive maintenance activities involving wellheads and associated production equipment.
- Coordinate cleaning and servicing of Christmas trees, subsurface safety valves, choke valves, isolation valves, and related wellhead components.
- Coordinate flow line maintenance and associated field activities.
- Follow up track maintenance requirements supporting access to operational facilities.
- Coordinate transfer line pigging activities in accordance with approved operating requirements.
- Support surface casing repair activities and coordinate operational interfaces where required.
- Coordinate handover and acceptance of wells between Production Operations and Drilling.
- Monitor mobile equipment deployed at operating locations and maintain appropriate utilization records.
- Monitor fire and gas protection panels for alarms, faults, and abnormal conditions.
- Coordinate with Maintenance personnel for timely rectification of failures affecting plant protection systems.
- Take immediate action during emergency situations in accordance with approved emergency procedures and contingency plans.
- Initiate safe partial or complete plant shutdown when required to protect personnel, equipment, and facilities.
- Maintain communication with relevant operational and emergency response personnel throughout abnormal or emergency conditions.
- Restore affected facilities to normal operating conditions safely and efficiently once conditions have stabilized.
- Coordinate plant start-up activities and verify that required operating sequences are followed.
- Support turnaround activities and sequential plant shutdown and start-up requirements.
- Troubleshoot day-to-day plant operating problems and support solutions that improve operational efficiency.
- Initiate maintenance work requests following equipment or instrument failures.
- Coordinate maintenance requirements with field operators and the Duty Operations Engineer.
- Follow up active work permits and ensure operational requirements are maintained throughout maintenance activities.
- Coordinate safe removal of equipment and instruments from service before maintenance intervention.
- Verify appropriate conditions before returning maintained equipment and instrumentation to operational service.
- Communicate process variations, alarms, abnormal conditions, and operating changes to field Production personnel.
- Maintain effective coordination between Control Centre and field teams during normal, abnormal, and emergency operations.
- Implement and comply with approved operational policies, processes, systems, standards, and procedures.
- Provide on-the-job training in support of Competency Based Training programs and UAE Nationalization objectives.
- Contribute ideas and practical recommendations for improving operating procedures and functional processes.
- Perform assigned duties in accordance with HSE requirements, regulations, and ADNOC Codes of Practice.
- Report HSE non-conformances, incidents, and near misses through the appropriate reporting channels and SAP.
- Stop and report activities considered unsafe or inconsistent with approved HSE procedures.
- Perform assigned emergency response responsibilities in accordance with the facility emergency organization.
- Maintain appropriate housekeeping standards within the operating environment.
- Provide operational information for section progress reports and management reporting.
- Prepare applicable Key Performance Indicator checklists to support monitoring of operational performance.
Ideal Profile
The successful candidate should hold a Technical Diploma in a relevant field or a Secondary School Certificate supported by an appropriate vocational trade certificate. Candidates should have 2-3 years of relevant operational experience, preferably within the oil and gas industry. Practical understanding of process plant operations, control room monitoring, process parameters, production facilities, alarms, plant upsets, shutdowns, start-ups, wellhead operations, and field maintenance coordination is important. The role requires an operator who can recognize abnormal process conditions quickly, follow established operating instructions, make safe operational decisions, and communicate effectively with field personnel and maintenance teams. Experience with work permits, fire and gas monitoring, maintenance work requests, production reporting, emergency procedures, and SAP-based HSE reporting would be valuable.
