Job summary

Shou'alah in Dubai seeks a Junior Control Room Operator to manage daily operation of the Energy from Waste system from the main control room using the DCS and manual systems. You will ensure safe, environmentally compliant, and efficient plant operation with support from the maintenance team and Shift Team Leader.

The role requires a Diploma in mechanical or electrical discipline, 3+ years of related experience in energy/power plant operations, and familiarity with boiler plant operation

Responsibilities

• Safely and efficiently shuts down and restarts production, safety when required, per plant operating procedures and parameters
• Observes proper operating procedures with reference to time and load when bringing equipment into service
• Controls operating parameters from the distributed control system either manually or automatically, as required
• Records all equipment changes and any abnormal or unusual conditions that may exist on any article of plant or apparatus
• Performs daily routine, including filling out necessary log sheets and raising maintenance work requests as required
• Responsible for cleanliness of equipment and an orderly work area around crane and hopper deck
• Performs additional tasks as directed by the Shift Team Leader
• Liaises closely with the maintenance team on the delivery of planned and unplanned maintenance activities affecting crane availability
• Reports promptly any breaches of HSE procedures to the Duty Shift Team Leader
• Actively participates in and promotes company health, safety & environmental campaigns, initiatives, policies and procedures, ensures personal safety at all times, including that of colleagues
• Notifies Shift Team Leader of defective equipment, as well as unsatisfactory material conditions
• Fulfils role and responsibilities as detailed in relevant working procedures, policies and plans.

Job Scope Summary

The Junior Control Room Operator is responsible for the safe, environmentally compliant and efficient daily operation of the centrally controlled Energy from Waste system with its associated auxiliaries and functions. Responsible for operating the plant from the main control room using the Distributed Control System (DCS) and associated manual systems safely.

Job Responsibilities

The Junior Control Room Operator follows established operating procedures and does not deviate from these procedures during normal operating conditions except as directed. The Junior Control Room Operator performs assigned routine inspections and manipulative operations without close supervision within well-defined boundaries. The Junior Control Room Operator coordinates daily operational activities with the Plant Operators. Specific duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Educational / Professional Qualification / Training Certifications

• Diploma in a Mechanical or Electrical discipline

Job Experience

• Minimum of 3 years' experience in Energy from Waste or Power Plant Operations or Maintenance
• Specific expertise in resource recovery material handling and waste processing is preferred.
• Preferably certified in boiler plant operations

Additional required job skills and competencies

• Familiar with HSE standards, procedures and requirements and control plant operations in a safe and efficient manner
• Must have a thorough knowledge of the principles of operation for steam boiler plant, plant chemistry, combustion dynamics, turbine-generators, emissions monitoring equipment, balance of plant equipment and systems.
• Must have a clear understanding of equipment interlocks, alarms and trips and must understand how the various plant control loops respond
• Must have completed an operator training program requirement for the position or must have had equivalent power plant work-related experience.
• Must have the ability to react quickly and with good judgment during emergencies.
