Consultant Physician - Hematology and Oncology

Job Description

The Consultant Physician is responsible for leading and supervising the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care. They diagnose, manage, and treat patients efficiently and effectively, serving as an example of clinical excellence within their specialty. The role also involves providing leadership and training to junior medical staff.

Responsibilities

  • Support and implement hospital, departmental, and divisional policies and initiatives.
  • Lead and participate in performance management, including peer review and resource utilization.
  • Assist in scheduling and ensure adequate medical coverage within the division.
  • Attend divisional meetings and assist in recruiting new medical staff.
  • Perform clinical duties including diagnosis, treatment, and patient management according to established standards.
  • Oversee junior medical staff and ensure quality of care.
  • Comply with hospital policies on admissions, procedures, and patient care.
  • Lead ward rounds, document clinical information accurately, and review investigation results.
  • Coordinate with other specialties and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Manage patient preparation for procedures and obtain informed consent.
  • Provide on-call coverage as required, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and families, maintaining good team relationships.
  • Engage in quality improvement, audit, and clinical research activities.
  • Support ongoing education and training of staff and promote a culture of learning and development.

Accountabilities

Ensure compliance with SSMC policies and regulatory requirements, maintain confidentiality, and uphold professional standards.

Qualifications

Experience:

  • Tier 1: Minimum 2 years relevant experience as a consultant or equivalent post-board certification.
  • Tier 2: Up to 8 years full-time employment as a Consultant or equivalent, including fellowship training, in an internationally accredited institute.

Educational Qualification:

  • From Tier 1 or Tier 2, with current national license or equivalent, and proof of ongoing CME participation.
