Responsibilities

Gender: Any Candidate Nationality: Any Job Type: Full-time Role Context The Consultant Pain Management physician will evaluate and treat patients affected by persistent, recurrent, postoperative, neuropathic, musculoskeletal, cancer-related, and other complex pain conditions. The role requires detailed clinical assessment, careful treatment selection, interventional expertise, and ongoing monitoring to achieve meaningful improvements in comfort and daily function. Working closely with Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Neurology, Oncology, Rehabilitation Medicine, Physiotherapy, and other services, the consultant will help establish coordinated care pathways for patients whose pain requires more than a single therapeutic approach.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess patients with acute and chronic pain and determine contributing medical, neurological, musculoskeletal, or postoperative factors.
• Develop individualized treatment plans combining medication, interventional procedures, rehabilitation, and non-pharmacological therapies.
• Perform nerve blocks, epidural steroid injections, joint injections, radiofrequency ablation, and other appropriate pain interventions.
• Use image-guided techniques to improve procedural precision and patient safety where required.
• Manage neuropathic pain, spinal pain, musculoskeletal pain, postoperative pain, cancer-related pain, and other complex pain syndromes.
• Review previous treatments, diagnostic findings, imaging, medication history, and functional limitations before establishing a management strategy.
• Monitor clinical response and modify treatment plans according to pain severity, mobility, functional improvement, and adverse effects.
• Work with Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Neurology, Oncology, Rehabilitation Medicine, Physiotherapy, and other specialists on complex cases.
• Provide clear counseling regarding treatment options, procedural risks, realistic outcomes, medication use, and lifestyle adjustments.
• Encourage appropriate rehabilitation and functional restoration alongside pain reduction strategies.
• Maintain accurate documentation of assessments, procedures, treatment response, medication plans, and follow-up recommendations.
• Supervise junior physicians and allied healthcare professionals involved in pain management services where applicable.
• Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, patient safety programs, and continuing medical education activities.
• Apply evidence-based practice when evaluating new pain therapies, procedural techniques, and long-term management approaches.

Ideal Profile

• MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
• Completion of accredited residency training in Anesthesiology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Neurology, or another relevant specialty.
• Fellowship or recognized subspecialty certification in Pain Management or Pain Medicine.
• Board Certification in the primary specialty together with recognized pain medicine training.
• Minimum 3-5 years of post-board experience practicing at Consultant Pain Management level.
• Broad experience treating acute and chronic pain disorders across different patient populations.
• Strong procedural background in interventional pain management.
• Competence with image-guided injections, nerve blocks, radiofrequency procedures, and related techniques.
• Previous experience in a tertiary care hospital is advantageous.
• Strong clinical judgment when balancing procedural, pharmacological, and rehabilitative treatment options.
• Excellent patient counseling and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
• Eligibility for appropriate consultant-level medical licensing in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
