Job summary

Astra ProMed in Dubai seeks a Consultant Ophthalmologist to provide comprehensive eye care, including advanced diagnostics, medical and surgical management. You will lead multidisciplinary teams, mentor juniors, and participate in CME and research at modern ophthalmology facilities.

The role requires DHA consultant eligibility, a postgraduate Ophthalmology qualification, and strong clinical judgment with leadership and communication skills. Competitive compensation aligns with UAE standards.

Qualifications

• MBBS/MD or equivalent medical degree.
• Recognized postgraduate qualification in Ophthalmology.
• Board certification or consultant qualification.
• Fellowship or advanced subspecialty training in Ophthalmology desirable.
• 5–10 years post-specialization experience in Ophthalmology.
• Eligible for DHA Consultant license in Dubai.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive ophthalmic consultations, examinations, diagnosis, and treatment.
• Diagnose and manage cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, corneal diseases.
• Perform ophthalmic surgical procedures within scope and privileges.
• Conduct comprehensive eye examinations including visual acuity, slit-lamp, fundoscopy, IOP.
• Perform cataract surgery with phacoemulsification and IOL implantation when trained.
• Monitor chronic ophthalmic conditions and develop long-term plans.
• Collaborate with optometrists, ophthalmic technicians, and other specialists.
• Provide patient education on eye health, risks, recovery and care.
• Supervise and mentor junior physicians and staff.
• Participate in audits, CME, teaching, and research activities.

Job description

We're Hiring | Consultant Ophthalmologist

Location: Dubai

Employment Type: Full-Time

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive ophthalmic consultations, examinations, diagnosis, and treatment
• Diagnose and manage cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, corneal diseases, and other ophthalmic disorders
• Perform appropriate ophthalmic surgical procedures within the scope of clinical expertise and privileges
• Conduct comprehensive eye examinations, including visual acuity assessment, slit-lamp examination, fundoscopy, and intraocular pressure measurement
• Perform cataract surgery, including phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation, where appropriately trained
• Evaluate and manage patients with retinal, corneal, anterior segment, and optic nerve disorders
• Diagnose and manage ocular infections, inflammatory eye conditions, and ophthalmic emergencies
• Interpret diagnostic investigations, including optical coherence tomography (OCT), visual field testing, fundus photography, corneal topography, and ocular ultrasound
• Perform appropriate laser treatments and minor ophthalmic procedures within the authorized scope of practice
• Provide comprehensive pre-operative assessment, surgical planning, informed consent, and post-operative follow-up
• Monitor patients with chronic ophthalmic conditions and develop individualized long-term treatment plans
• Collaborate with optometrists, ophthalmic technicians, neurologists, endocrinologists, and other multidisciplinary specialists
• Provide patient education regarding eye health, treatment options, surgical risks, recovery, and preventive care
• Supervise and mentor junior physicians and ophthalmic healthcare professionals
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and ensure compliance with clinical governance, infection control, and patient-safety standards
• Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, teaching, research, and CME activities

Requirements

Qualifications

• MBBS/MD or equivalent medical degree
• Recognized postgraduate qualification in Ophthalmology
• Board certification or equivalent recognized consultant qualification
• Fellowship or advanced subspecialty training in Ophthalmology is highly desirable
• Minimum 5-10 years of post-specialization experience in Ophthalmology
• Strong clinical and surgical experience in diagnosing and managing complex ophthalmic conditions
• Demonstrated competence in ophthalmic diagnostic procedures and relevant surgical interventions
• Experience in cataract surgery, glaucoma management, retinal disorders, or corneal diseases is highly desirable
• Eligible for DHA Consultant classification/license in Dubai, subject to applicable qualification and experience requirements
• Excellent clinical judgment, surgical skills, communication, leadership, and patient-management abilities
