Diagnoses and treats diseases of the heart and its functions. Examines patients for symptoms indicative of heart disorders, using medical instruments and equipment. Studies diagnostic images and electrocardiograph recordings to aid in diagnosis. Prescribes medications and recommends dietary and activity programs as needed. Refers patients to interventional cardiologists or cardiac surgeons when corrective surgery is indicated.
Responsibilities
- Performs professional duties of an internist in accordance with the Delineation of Privileges, depending on individual efficiency and skills.
- Evaluates patients with cardiovascular disease in the Cardiology outpatient clinic.
- Provides care to in-patients admitted under their supervision.
- Provides on-call emergency coverage for cardiology emergencies.
- Supports continuous quality improvement by developing and promoting appropriate standards of care.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding patient information and administrative matters.
- Demonstrates dependability in fulfilling commitments and obligations.
- Exhibits effective communication skills by listening to others.
- Develops a thorough understanding of hospital policies and procedures, demonstrating respect for them.
- Performs additional duties as assigned by the Head of Department.
- Complies with OSH and infection control policies, standards, and procedures, cooperating with hospital management.
- Works in accordance with documented OSH procedures and instructions.
- Familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures.
- Reports OSH hazards, incidents, near misses, and assists with risk assessments and incident reports.
- Adheres to waste management procedures and policies.
- Attends OSH/infection control training, drills, and awareness programs.
- Uses appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems.
Qualifications
- Graduation from an approved medical school, plus one year of internship and three years of residency; certification by the American Board of Cardiology or membership in the Royal College of Physicians (or equivalent).
- At least three (3) years of practice as a licensed cardiologist.
- Excellent command of oral and written English; knowledge of Arabic is desirable but not essential.
- Current licensure in the country of origin and HAAD license as a specialist cardiologist to practice in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with co-workers, superiors, patients, and families.
