Responsibilities

About the Role

The Consultant Cardiac Electrophysiologist will evaluate and treat patients with complex arrhythmias using advanced diagnostic and interventional electrophysiology techniques. The clinical scope includes atrial and ventricular rhythm disorders, electrophysiological studies, catheter-based ablation, cardiac device management, and comprehensive peri-procedural care. The consultant will work closely with cardiology, cardiac surgery, heart failure, intensive care, and other specialist teams to support coordinated management of patients with complex cardiac rhythm conditions.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose and manage cardiac arrhythmias and complex rhythm disorders.
• Perform and interpret electrocardiograms, Holter monitoring, event monitoring, and electrophysiological studies.
• Perform catheter ablation for supraventricular and ventricular arrhythmias.
• Manage atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, supraventricular tachycardia, ventricular tachycardia, and other complex arrhythmias.
• Perform 3D electroanatomical mapping and advanced ablation techniques.
• Implant and manage pacemakers, implantable cardioverter-defibrillators, and cardiac resynchronization therapy devices where within the scope of practice.
• Provide comprehensive assessment and care before and after electrophysiology procedures.
• Recognize and manage procedural complications.
• Collaborate with interventional cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, heart failure specialists, intensivists, and other multidisciplinary teams.
• Participate in multidisciplinary cardiac rhythm and device clinics.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and practice according to evidence-based guidelines.
• Contribute to clinical teaching, research, quality improvement, and departmental development.

Requirements

• MBBS, MD, or equivalent medical degree.
• Recognized specialist or consultant qualification in Cardiology.
• Fellowship or advanced subspecialty training in Cardiac Electrophysiology or Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology.
• Valid DOH Department of Health - Abu Dhabi license or eligibility, or eligibility to obtain one.
• Significant post-specialization experience in cardiac electrophysiology.
• Demonstrated expertise in complex ablation procedures.
• Experience with cardiac implantable electronic devices.
• Excellent communication and clinical decision-making skills.
• Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary cardiovascular teams.

Preferred Expertise

• Relevant expertise may include complex atrial fibrillation ablation, ventricular tachycardia ablation, 3D electroanatomical mapping, cryoablation, and pulsed-field ablation.
• Experience in cardiac device implantation, lead extraction, and the management of complex cardiac rhythm disorders will also be advantageous.
