Job summary

KEO International invites a skilled Resident Engineer / Construction Supervision Specialist (Waste Management Infrastructure) to join the Abu Dhabi team. The role oversees landfill and waste-infrastructure construction, coordinating a multi-disciplinary supervision team on site.

You will ensure compliance with design specs, environmental regulations, and contract conditions, while coordinating between client, contractor, and consultants to deliver projects safely and on schedule.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in waste infrastructure facility construction supervision.
  • Bachelor’s degree or similar in Civil, Mechanical or Environmental Engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of landfill construction/management practices and related codes.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the Engineer’s on-site representative, liaising with client, contractor and design team.
  • Lead and manage the on-site consultant supervision team.
  • Supervise daily construction works to ensure compliance with specifications and QA/QC.
  • Monitor contractor performance and coordinate with client and contractor on issues.
  • Prepare reports on construction progress, QA/QC, and project performance.
  • Review contractor submittals (methods, shop drawings, QA/QC, material submittals, schedules).
  • Conduct inspections and maintain daily records; witness commissioning activities.

Responsibilities

Our newest opportunity is for a talented Resident Engineer / Construction Supervision Specialist (Waste Management Infrastructure) to join our team based in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

This position will be responsible for overseeing the construction supervision and managing the consultant supervision team for landfill and other waste infrastructure projects (such as transfer stations, MRFs, LFG systems, etc.). This role will include overseeing daily construction activities, ensuring construction works comply with design specifications, environmental regulations, local building codes, FIDIC-based conditions of contract, and strict Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) standards. Furthermore, the role will cover general project management including monitoring construction progress, reporting and coordination between contractors, the consultant and the client.

We envisage success in this role to include:

  • Acting as the Engineer’s primary on-site representative, liaising between the client, contractor, design team, and other stakeholders.
  • Leading and managing the on-site consultant supervision team, including inspectors, HSE supervisors, document controllers, etc.
  • Supervising and overseeing daily construction works (full-time) to ensure compliance with technical specifications and quality assurance requirements.
  • Monitoring contractor performance, ensuring that all construction activities are conducted in accordance with project standards and local laws.
  • Coordinating with contractors and the client to resolve construction/management related issues.
  • Preparing detailed reports on construction progress, technical specification compliance and project performance.
  • Reviewing contractor submittals relating to construction methodologies, shop drawings, QA/QC submissions, material submittals, project progress / schedules, payment certificates, variation requests, etc.
  • Inspections, monitoring and approval of construction works, while maintaining suitable daily records of works completed and inspected.
  • Witnessing and maintaining records of commissioning activities and performance testing.
Qualifications

To be successful in this dynamic opportunity, we envision that your career journey to date will include 10+ years of experience in waste infrastructure facility construction supervision or related fields, partnered with a Bachelor’s degree or similar qualification in Civil, Mechanical or Environmental Engineering.

Furthermore, you should demonstrate:

  • Strong knowledge of landfill construction/management practices (i.e. landfill liner systems, landfill gas systems, civil works and earthworks). Experience in the construction of other solid waste management infrastructure will also be accepted.
  • Willingness to travel and spend time on remote sites across the GCC region.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail in managing construction contracts.
  • Ability to work closely with contractors and project teams to ensure project success and contract compliance.
  • Excellent communication skills in both English and Arabic.
  • Registration or certification in relevant civil engineering / geosynthetic installation / construction management fields.
  • Practical familiarity with FIDIC Red/Yellow Book conditions of contract (or equivalent standard conditions).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D will be advantageous.
  • Experience using MS Project and/or Primavera P6 will also be considered advantageous.
