We are actively hiring for the following roles within the Conservation team:
• Research, conserve, and document painting and artworks with painted surfaces in the collection.
• Advise on the development of collections storage ensuring that the appropriate materials, configurations and environmental conditions are established for the continuing safety of the collection.
• Upkeep quality of documentation pertaining to artworks through written reports, high resolution photography and other imaging or analytical means as appropriate.
• Assessment of works for acquisition including producing condition reports, identifying materials and conducting artists interviews as necessary, in conjunction with curatorial staff.
• Conduct research into the materials, methods of manufacture, and the cause and extent of any deterioration or alteration of works in the collection or under consideration for acquisition.
• Outline the costs associated with treatment and special storage considerations for pending purchases and projects under development including commissions.
• Coordinate necessary scientific analysis and research to identify different materials and methods of fabrication to evaluate the efficacy and appropriateness of materials and treatments proposed for conservation before they are implemented.
• Document all treatment and technical information discovered during examination and conservation carried out. Participate in documentation project of commissions and collection.
• Advise on appropriate handling, installation, crating, as well as environmental conditions where collections are stored, displayed, or for loan.
• Evaluate collections requested for loan and advise on requirements for safe exhibition and travel including environment, packing, transport and display for any loans as applicable.
The role of Conservator in Preventive Conservation is essential for the preservation of artworks through sustainable practices. Serving as the lead in preventive conservation efforts for both the collection and exhibitions; analyzing risks and formulating mitigation plans in collaboration with various departments. Working alongside facility management during the building commissioning phase to establish and maintain optimal environmental conditions within the museum space. Engaging in research projects to identify safe materials for collection while developing sustainable conservation methodologies for each stage of the museum project. Providing expertise on safe handling practices, crating, and transportation of artworks, as well as developing and conducting training sessions focused on conservation principles and emergency procedures. Design preventive conservation program and procedure for business as usual (i.e. Integrated Pest Management, emergency response and salvage, sustainable exhibition materials, etc.). Identifying and procuring effective data monitoring systems to track environmental conditions and ensure they meet preservation standards. Participate in documentation of commissions and existing collections.
