Job Opening: Computational Scientist for Physical System Modeling and Theory

About my client
My client is at the forefront of advancing computational and photonic technologies to tackle some of the most challenging problems in physics and engineering.

  • Characterizing, optimizing, and applying photonic processors.
  • Developing predictive modeling techniques to solve computationally hard problems using photonic intelligence-enabled decision-making based on coupled oscillator networks.
  • Innovating solutions for combinatorial optimization and advanced AI applications.

We are seeking a Computational Scientist to join our dynamic team and contribute to the design and development of cutting-edge models and theories for physical systems. The successful candidate will work on tasks like developing novel algorithms, optimizing simulation platforms, and enabling next-generation AI solutions using photonics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement computational algorithms for modeling physical systems, with a focus on photonic processors and their applications.
  • Advance predictive modeling for solving complex problems such as optimization and decision-making using coupled oscillator networks.
  • Maintain and enhance high-performance simulation platforms for photonics, neuronal dynamics, and data visualization.
  • Participate in all stages of product development, from initial problem analysis to final deployment of computational solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate computational methods into broader research and development goals.

Candidate Strengths

  • Educational Background: Master s (Assistant Scientist), or Ph.D. in Physics (Senior Scientist), Computer Science, Information Technology, or related fields.
  • Programming Expertise: Strong knowledge of C++, Python, MATLAB, and experience in writing production-quality C++ code.
  • Research and Development Experience: Proficiency in computational physics, numerical solvers, and electrodynamic simulations.
  • AI and Machine Learning: Familiarity with GPU-centric computation, matrix multiplication, and AI algorithm optimization.
  • Software Development: Experience in developing user interfaces, cross-platform commercial software, and scientific codes for physical systems.
  • Problem Solving: A strong grasp of algorithms, numerics, and high-performance computational techniques.
  • Team Player: Ability to collaborate in multidisciplinary teams, communicate effectively, and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Language Proficiency: Fluency in English (written and spoken); proficiency in German is a plus.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with high-performance computing systems, including Linux and Slurm.
  • Familiarity with the Multiphysics Object-Oriented Simulation Environment (MOOSE).
  • Expertise in machine learning and artificial intelligence methods for computational research.
  • Experience modeling RF or microwave-driven plasma discharges using fluid or continuum descriptions.
  • Previous experience supervising technical staff, mentoring researchers, and writing grant proposals.
  • Strong academic background with an extensive publication list, including first-author papers.
