A leading company in the defense sector seeks a Compliance and Legal Manager to oversee legal and regulatory adherence within defense test ranges. The role involves advising leadership on legal risks, managing compliance programs, and ensuring alignment with local and international defense regulations. The ideal candidate will possess a law degree and extensive experience in the military sector.
Job Summary
The Compliance and Legal Manager is responsible for ensuring organizational adherence to all legal and regulatory requirements, with a particular focus on operations within defense test and evaluation ranges which are run commercially. This role includes oversight of legal risks, implementation of robust compliance programs, contract management, and maintaining alignment with local and international defense regulations. The ideal candidate will have experience working within or supporting Test and Evaluation ranges or defense-related environments and will act as a key advisor to executive leadership.
Key Accountabilities:
Legal:
• Advise the CEO and senior leadership on legal risks, liabilities, and compliance obligations, particularly in Test and Evaluation related operations.
• Draft, review, and negotiate local and international contracts, NDAs, MOUs, and licensing agreements with regulators, contractors, and suppliers.
• Ensure compliance with international arms regulations, export control laws, and defense-specific legal frameworks related to local regulations and international regulations related to business with international clients.
• Oversee legal aspects of test range operations, including land use, environmental compliance, safety, and data handling.
• Coordinate with EDGE corporate legal counsel on specialized defense legal matters or litigation and obtain corporate approvals as required.
Compliance:
• Develop and implement internal policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local, national, and international defense regulations.
• Conduct audits and assessments across testing and evaluation operations to identify potential non-compliance risks.
• Maintain awareness of changes in military procurement law, defense regulatory frameworks, and international treaties.
• Lead training programs to ensure all employees, including technical and operational staff, are aware of legal and regulatory requirements.
• Conduct and champion risk management across the organization.
• Serve as primary liaison with government compliance officers and regulatory agencies.
Experience & Education Qualifications:
Bachelor s degree in Law (LLB); Master s degree or professional certifications (e.g., CCEP, CAMS, defense law courses) preferred.
Licensed to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction.
Minimum 10 years of legal/compliance experience, with at least 5 years in the defense or military sector , preferably in test and evaluation range environments .
In-depth understanding of defense contracting, export control, UAE military laws, and national security protocols.
Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently under pressure and manage sensitive or classified information with integrity.
Desirable Experience:
• Familiarity with UAE & GCC defense regulations, and host-nation operational requirements.
• Experience in managing compliance within military test ranges, UAV testing, EW Testing, live-fire exercises, or weapons systems validation environments.
• Understanding of environmental and safety compliance standards applicable to test range operations.
