JOB SUMMARY

Supports the development and implementation of ongoing media and community relations initiatives. Provides crisis communications assistance to properties. Ensures that information communicated to the public and community is accurate and effectively presented, maximizing business opportunities. Implements a focused media and community relations program.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Education and Experience

2-year degree from an accredited university in Marketing, Business Administration, or a related major; 2 years of experience in public relations, communications, or a related professional area.

OR

4-year degree from an accredited university in Marketing, Business Administration, or a related major; no experience required.

CORE WORK ACTIVITIES

Building Brand and Property Awareness to Drive Revenue

  • Collaborates with local, regional, and national resources to build awareness and increase exposure for the property and its restaurants.
  • Solicits new media outlets and travel media contacts.
  • Selects optimal opportunities based on market conditions and property needs.
  • Uses creative selling techniques to maximize exposure through travel journalists and media outlets.
  • Increases awareness within the travel media community and coordinates events to boost exposure and revenue.
  • Supports social media efforts for the hotel, if applicable.
  • Works with online media outlets to promote the hotel.
  • Coordinates offers and information for publications and inserts related to brand loyalty and rewards.
  • Develops brochures and collateral materials for the property.
  • Participates in property imaging activities (e.g., signage).
  • Ensures consistent messaging across all public relations and communication efforts.

Building Successful Relationships

  • Builds and maintains relationships with travel writers and local media to ensure ongoing exposure. Activities include calls, entertainment, FAM trips, trade shows, etc.
  • Develops community relationships to expand customer base and sales opportunities.
  • Conducts solicitation and maintenance calls to media contacts.
  • Identifies distribution channels for distressed inventory to drive occupancy.
  • Provides communication tools to support public relations and property communications.
  • Assists in developing promotional campaigns.

Coordinating Communication Efforts

  • Provides accurate and effective communication to visiting journalists, publicity, or promotions.
  • Evaluates new public relations opportunities.
  • Develops strategic public relations plans, including group, leisure, and local efforts.
  • Manages media visits for individuals and groups.
  • Coordinates community service activities aligned with the resort's public image.
  • Supports hotel press releases and content for print and electronic media.

Providing Exceptional Customer Service

  • Sets a positive example in guest relations.
  • Engages with guests to gather feedback on product quality and service, and responds effectively to problems and complaints.
  • Observes employee service behaviors and provides feedback for improvement.
  • Conducts site inspections with visiting journalists.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Maintains detailed records related to the property's public materials.
  • Ensures compliance with corporate public relations guidelines.
