Overview of the role

Responsible for leading the Communication & Interior Design department in securing the overall visual and inspirational level inside the IKEA store. Ensure the store is perceived as a source of inspiration, tips, and ideas, as well as a qualified home furnishing specialist providing home furnishing solutions to customers to help maximize sales.

What you will do

COMMERCIAL and FINANCIAL

  • Support the store with expertise to ensure the commercial level regarding range presentation and visual merchandising is optimized, maintaining a consistent theme throughout the store.
  • Ensure that timelines and budgets set by the Store Manager are followed for all work related to changing and updating store areas in sync with the Commercial Calendar.
  • Develop and implement the annual business plan for the communication and interior design department in collaboration with the store management team.
  • Plan, execute, and follow up on the store’s commercial calendar activities.
  • Coordinate with the Country Communication & Interior Design Manager to plan and organize marketing activities related to the commercial calendar.
  • Collaborate with the rest of the Commercial team (ISL and Sales) to achieve the store sales target and the desired level of inspiration set by the store management.
  • Contribute to achieving the store’s sales targets.
  • Maintain the department’s budget.
  • Create a vibrant and exciting atmosphere within the store that encourages repeat visits.

OPERATIONAL

  • Implement systems and methods as stated in IKEA Concept Documentation across the store.
  • Lead major store changes, including building new room sets, new homes, and new departments.
  • Provide communication and interior design support to the Expansion team.
  • Create an engaging environment for staff and back-office areas.
  • Work closely with Sales and ISL departments for seamless integration.

PEOPLE MANAGEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT

  • Ensure all team members are trained in safety and security protocols related to equipment use.
  • Provide ongoing training and development programs to enhance store performance and prepare for succession.
  • Manage recruitment for the department, ensuring vacancies are filled promptly with qualified candidates.
  • Monitor employee satisfaction and address areas of concern.

Required skills to be successful

  • Deep interest and highly developed knowledge of home furnishings and lifestyle preferences.
  • Experience in store layout planning.
  • Strategic planning and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Leadership and people management skills.

What equips you for the role

  • At least 7 years of interior design or visual merchandising experience, preferably in retail home furnishings, inside or outside IKEA.
  • University degree in interior design, communication, or arts is highly preferred.
  • Experience in managing and developing teams.
  • Tactical thinking ability.
  • Understanding of KPIs and how departmental actions influence results.
