Job description

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide competent, professional and safe instructions using expert fitness skills and equipment in order to train students, faculty and staff member’s proper sports and fitness techniques.
  • Plan, organize and deliver an appropriate range of sports activities and programs for individuals and teams, as well as effectively organize class timings for maximum practice.
  • Participate in organizing and supervising all sports events, festivals, championships, tournaments and competitions inside and outside the university.
  • Ensure safety by complying with the safe operating procedures at all times to ensure the safety of individuals and prevent accidents, as well as handle sports injuries and other emergency health issues.
  • Monitor and evaluate all sports sessions, activities and programs and participate in developing new and advanced fitness programs.
  • Encourage students to compete by coaching and supervising the team of the University of Khorfakkan to be prepared and participate in various sporting competitions.
  • Promote a healthy lifestyle by encouraging students, faculty and staff to eat healthy and develop a suitable exercise schedule.
  • Manage the safety of the gym’s equipment and facilities by checking them regularly and reporting any damage or malfunction to the responsible person(s), in order to maintain the facility in high standards.
  • Extend bridges of cooperation by communicating with the UKF and external community in organizing sports activities for governmental authorities, institutions and departments to market sports activities and encourage people to attend.
  • Ensure safety in the gym by complying with the safe operating procedures at all times to ensure the safety of gym visitors and prevent accidents.
  • Respond to emergency situations, provide first aid and contact emergency personnel when needed.

Complete any other job-related tasks as assigned by line manager within the expected time limit.

Operational Plans

  • Participate in developing the department/college’s operational and business plans, and contribute in its execution, in line with the department/college’s strategy in order to support the achievement of the University’s strategic objectives.

Continuous Improvement

  • Provide input to enhance the processes and procedures that help implement the relevant best practices.
  • Follow all relevant processes, standard operating procedures, and instructions accurately to ensure that job tasks are carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.

Systems, Processes and Reports

  • Generate relevant reports and ensure that they are prepared timely and accurately, and meet the department’s requirements and standards.

Operate the required software/hardware accurately and effectively.

Required Qualification & Experience

  • Minimum of a Diploma in Athletics, Physical Education, or a relevant discipline.
  • 2-3 years of UAE experience in a similar role preferably in higher education institutions.

Priority is to UAE Nationals.

Required Skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to prepare professional documents, in both Arabic and English.
  • Good level of fitness.
  • Excellent observation skills.
  • A high level of concentration and the ability to act calmly and quickly in emergencies.
  • Has a clear understanding of injuries, sports psychology and nutrition.
  • The ability to communicate clearly and with authority, especially in emergencies.
  • A tactful but firm approach with people who are breaking safety rules.
  • High integrity and openness combined with commitment to good governance.
  • Inquisitive mind and passion for excellence.
  • Flexibility and ability to function effectively as part of a team.

Proficiency in MS office applications.
